Hi,

I am going around in circles debating with myself whether I need to get a set of (new) V8 cylinder heads resurfaced because one has a scratch on the gasket face.

They are unused Wildcat heads for Rover V8. I scratched one slightly whilst taking it on and off while fabricating manifolds. Attached is a photo of the offending scratch.

I can feel it with my finger nail, but can't hang my nail on it.

I am going around in circles. Obviously, could do without being scratched, but am thinking it may well be fine just to run it.

What would others do?

Thanks

If you want the gasket to be air and water tight, get the scratch fixed.

Looks like it joins a coolant gallery with a cylinder.

I guess it'll probably be fine but would be a ball ache to remove from the car if the HG does go.

The best answer all-round just in case is to get it skimmed out.

If it doesn't cross the fire ring area then you could use a suitable sealant smeared into the scratch prior to fitting. If it crosses the fire ring then either a very light skim or a linish with a flat block and wet/dry (depending on depth) would correct it.

Thanks,

I stopped toing and froing and just made the decision to take them to the machine shop this morning. Knowing my luck, if I hadn't got it seen to, it would leak, and then I would be kicking myself.

Is the correct answer.
