aux shaft seal is leaking
Discussion
I'm in the process of replacing the power steering belt on my MK1 Tuscan which is driven from the aux. shaft. You will have to remove all ancillaries around it like AC compressor, alternator and power steering pump and everything on the shaft, so alternator pulley, bearing housing and power steering pulley if it's not electric power steering. The bearing housing was the nightmare item to remove as the 2 bolts were corroded into the housing and I had to cut away the alloy housing to reveal the bolt head and body then it can be unscrewed, best doing it this way than risk sheering the bolts in the block.
The seal itself looks pretty slim so I wouldn't fancy trying to remove it with the shaft in place, luckily mine is dry, in fact, the whole engine is leak free. If you managed to remove the seal you would need a metal tube longer than the shaft to tap the seal home to make the install straight forward. Would be interesting to hear if it can be done this way.
Give me a shout if you need pics
