Sounds silly, but I’m employed on a fixed term contract that expires in three weeks time.

I’ve reminded my employer several times, have been told that it’s “in hand”, and have work scheduled through to 2026. But nothing in writing yet!

Complicated employment in the public sector - recruited by one agency and immediately seconded to a second. Could be that there’s a funding problem somewhere (good ol’ austerity!).

More amused than stressed (if I was twenty years younger, with a big mortgage, it wouldn’t be at all funny!). Interesting work that I really enjoy, and lovely colleagues, but there are other jobs out there - have applied for one.

Do I just give back my two laptops on my last day and invite everyone to the pub? (In practice, we’re more a cream tea bunch). Or just carry on working and see if I get paid?

Public sector, you'll probably have a conversation with your line manger on the penultimate day and they'll get you to sign a renewal.
But otherwise just hand your laptop back on the last day and have a pint.
