Thought I'd make a thread for my new p&j, say hello to my lovely F-Type V8S convertible.

So a bit of info and story on it. Since selling my Nismo 370 a couple of years ago I've missed having something a bit shouty, having moved to a short term Alfa Spider my previous car which was a Boxster S - brilliant but a touch dull. I was idly looking through classifieds as you do, seeing how far the budget could or couldnt stretch - with an eye on 997's - where I found that some of the cheaper F-Types were now in the low 20's and below which made them fairly tempting. I've always through they were very beautiful and following an encounter with a V8 XK in my teens I swore I'd try to get one at some point in my life, so I began my research... What started out as a cursory look at one in the flesh, intending only to compare V6 to V8, lead to firing up that immense V8 and my fate was sealed.

A little further research and requirements I decided I needed one to fit the brief.

  • Had to have an interesting colour, having been bored to tears by a sea of grey, silver, black and dark blue Porsches
  • Preferably convertible, I've grown to quite like them after my last two
  • Pre-filters and without the quiet exhaust software
  • Preferably RWD
And with that in mind I found this one by a stroke of luck fairly quickly. It has a semi interesting past, being a very very early car (#85) and having been owned by Jaguar themselves so probably a demo of some sort which explains the complete options and rare colour combo with grey full leather interior. It is in immaculate shape, looking brand new in the bay and underneath, and mercifully free of the common issues with leaking coolant or diffs, no knocks or bumps, full books of Jaguar stamps, the works. Being an earlier car and non-AWD it also has the hydraulic as opposed to the electric steering rack, but I havent compared back to back so who knows if that is any different.

I've put about 800 miles onto it this month which has been all smiles, which is a relief as the MPG seems to be hovering 20 and below. I expect it'll improve when I grow up and stop making noise with it. On the topic of the noise, its so obscene, from startup to slow driving and up to overruns and pops and crackles its extremely engaging, but my neighbours probably feel differently. Its my only car and daily driver so lots of adventures will be had.

Enough waffle, more pics.

(Plate was off for a proper clean before I put new ones on)

I've been out to a couple of cars and coffee events but I'm struggling to find a local drive club or anything like that, so if anyone in the Cheshire area knows of anything or even wants a drive, give me a shout! I'd love to see some new routes with other nice cars.

There are a few little bits on the snag list to sort like the dreaded sticky plastics but for now nothing is a major worry or concern and I'm excited for the 6 or 7 sunny days we have left for this year. If anyone knows a good source for bits please let me know, if there is a Design911 equivalent for Jag world I'd be keen to know.

Give me a wave if you spot me out.

Toss up between one of these and the SLK55 - every time I see one I wonder if I made the right choice.

Love that OP.

I do love these, I briefly had an XKR with the same engine and it was magnificent, just a shame the example I had an iffy gearbox so went back.

I loved the noise of the 5.0 and the way it punched hard across the rev range.

Looks like you have a great example

Superb! In a world of more dull paint jobs (and engines), this would be a real delight to see and hear. Enjoy.

Congratulations, it's a lovely colour thumbup

I traded in my V6S Coupe last week for a V8 Cabrio and love it to bits. It's not as shouty as yours being a 2022 P450 AWD but at anything over 3,000rpm it's goes properly 'one flew over the cuckoos nest'. biggrin

Lovely choice OP, Firesand is probably my favourite colour for an F-type...

Great seats too, loads of adjustment and very comfortable over a long run.

Enjoy every mile!

I cant claim to be an encyclopedia on these yet but to my knowledge it has everything bar the reversing camera which is an odd omission. Heated wheel, I believe extended leather, all the button slots have a button in them, meridian plus etc. Im happy with it for now but I shall be retrofitting carplay in the future.

Thank you - that was my intention. Be the change you want to see and brighten up someones day is the hope.

As to the noise, my gf asked me to take her on a short tunnel run so heres her POV, apologies for the quality! https://youtube.com/shorts/pbQCpjNqowY

I suppose a bit annoyingly, my plan was always to end up in a 911, but I dont see where it is an upgrade on this for all of the important bits. Im sure its much faster on the clocks but Im not sure that actually matters. My 987 was so good and so competent, but it didnt really light that fire in me like this does. If anyone with a 911 fancies a back to back with this get in touch, could be a fun day out!

That looks really cool, and I completely agree with getting a more exciting colour. Alas my current fleet are: Grey, silver, silver, black, black, grey and silver. So boring, so my next cars needs to be different!

I got talking to someone at a cars and coffee the other week where it was mentioned that I was eligible for the Revv'd Up event at Santa Pod which is their new supercars only event, I dunno how I slipped through the net but it seemed like a good opportunity for a day out, and having not been there for nearly 15 years it would be nice to go down the strip in something worth the run and maybe a chance for some fun match ups.

I ended up having a really fun day, met some nice people, and didnt embarrass myself as much as I feared I might. The car was faultless, ran down there comfortably, ran low 12's all day, then whisked me back home without a worry. You'd expect as much I suppose but still the risk is there, and it was a hot day.

The event was alright, smaller than you might have hoped but for an inaugural not bad and the crowd seemed happy enough. The demos were as usual great.

After all was said and done I'd run against some R8's, a Huracan, Panamera, a Mclaren of some flavour, and a legit 9 second pickup which left me like I hadnt even started.

Enjoy the pics!

The official photographer was thoughtful enough to pose the pics in such a way as to make it appear as though I was mostly winning which was a kind service worth the cash biggrin

And a short video if you'd like some noise

And the receipts...

Oh and what might be of some more interest to some, on ebay I stumbled upon an old dealer model in almost exactly the right spec which is now a nice desk ornament.
