Coppercoat...

Last spring I had my boat re-Coppercoated. It's supposed to last for 10 years.

At the weekend I noticed this:



Is that normal?

You still have to jet it off and potentially re-key the surface, but not actually antifoul...that's my understanding.

The original Coppercoat was 12 years old (service life 10) and had a surface like a scouring pad, so it was sandblasted off first. This was applied new a year ago; I'm just surprised to see green stuff growing so soon. It's freshwater BTW.

I would not be surprised to see that growth on one year old conventional antifoul.
Having to scrub the waterline is pretty much a given.

Are you in fresh water? still water or lots of current?

Freshwater as stated, in a marina so still. But Coppercoat isn't conventional antifoul.

I'm surprised at that level of growth on Coppercoat.
Friends that have used it swear by it, only occasionally having to rough up the surface to 'reactivate' the copper.

The growth you have reminds me of buying Resene Antifoul in Fiji, I'm quietly confident now that it was mainly house paint with a splash of antifoul !
