Hi all.

I'm looking to book a family ski trip to Norway for Jan or Feb 2026.

2 adults
3 Kids (14 / 10 / 7) at time of travel

All intermediate skiiers, Tend towards easier slopes rather than advanced stuff.

Norway seems to be looking a good option, with reasonable chances of snow.

Anyone any experience of particular resorts there?

Prob a self catered Chalet - ideally walking distance from lifts.

Thanks!

Always used to go skiing to Myrkdal when I lived there, which is just up from Voss and just shy of 3 hrs from Bergen, that was nice but very small. Geilo would probably be more suitable.

I’m also looking at this myself. I’m not keen on taking the kids out of school so I’m trying to find options that won’t be too busy as it will be their first trip we don't need a big areas with 100km of pistes.

It’s been a long time since I skied the Norwegian resorts (I did some touring further north in April this year).

I’m looking at Trysil. Norway’s largest ski resort with lots of wide, gentle slopes that are perfect for building confidence and enjoying longer runs. It’s very family-oriented and there are good chalet rental options nearby. Scandinavian Mountains Airport is close by but Oslo isn’t a terrible transfer either. Our kids will be 6 and 9 so we really want to avoid a transfer longer than 2 hours especially since it’s already a 3-hour drive to our nearest airport in the UK.

Hafjell is slightly smaller but also excellent for families with well-maintained pistes and easy access to amenities. Plus it’s just a short drive from Lillehammer which is handy if you want to explore a bit.

Geilo and Norefjell might be worth a look as well. Compared to the Alps it can be brutally cold at that time of year. Easter would probably be better with longer days and generally nicer weather. It’s quite different from skiing in the Alps at the big resorts, not necessarily better or worse, just different. I skied last December in Levi which is much further north mostly skiing under floodlights.

Let me know how you get on!
