the big white patch in the top right was a window. used 1 2/3rds exposure compensation then a bit of 'shopping to get the final result

That pleases me because that's what I hoped you'd done - reverse engineering and it means I can do it too!
All I need now is the 17-55 f2.8; unfortunately they are £loads.
