One episode to go and I think it’s excellent. I love some of the sweary dialogue, especially between his sidekicks. That Syrian guy is ace too.

It seems really oddly filmed - almost like you're in the room at times.

Can't just be the excellent picture quality.

It isn't bad, we only started watching it because they filmed in my wife's SIL's (who you can also see, briefly) pub, but it has been interesting so far. My only real complaint is the early time skip stuff was a bit jarring.

Being a Yorkshire lad, it took a few minutes for the Scottish filter in my head to kick in. A little like when watching Top Boy for the first time.

Excellent series, with a good ending that will hopefully lead to another series or 2.

Yes, very enjoyable. Nice to see a cold case unit with an even more dark and dingy basement office than the one in Waking the Dead.

I've seen two episodes so far.

My early thoughts were that this recycles various police-TV cliches: maverick, misanthropist detective who has a bad relationship with his superiors; classic car (he asks his boss for a company car and gets given a 40-year-old Sierra, unless I missed something); detective has sidekick who is very different, they don't get on at first, then become a great team; etc.

However, I found the case of the missing lawyer very intriguing, and the mystery of the initial shooting. The series is well made, scripted and acted and the story is gripping.

Another thought: we're always being told how many thousands it costs to keep prisoners in prison. But in this show we have people spending their own money to create their own little prison (dunno what happens later, please don't tell me). Maybe we could get psychopaths to 'adopt' a prisoner each and take the burden off the state?

There is a certain amount of that, certainly, I expect there's only so much that can be done on these things.

Probably the standards of accommodation in an actual prison are a bit better. I intend to never find out.

I rarely look forward to a second and subsequent series of most shows these days,
but I do hope that there’s more to follow of Department Q.

Agree with the other comments. Great building of tension in the last couple of episodes, decent characters (especially Akram) and a good story.

Really hope there is a second season.

It was great to watch something where the finale fully paid off on the lead up. A tremendously satisfying ending to a fantastic series. The world needs more of the adventures of Morck and Akram … particularly their verbal ripostes:

Morck: His name was Rocket?
Akram: This is Scottish slang for “crazy.”
Morck: I thought “Scottish” was Scottish slang for “crazy.”

Agree it’s got scope with the unit for sure.

Very good it was a different type of police drama for sure.
