Need a few replacement double glazing panels, one new window, and some hinges:

2x French door panels
2x fixed panels in conservatory

900x900 complete window top opener

New hinges on 2x dormer bedroom windows, side openers that don't pull in tightly.

Been quoted £1600, Cornwall, local company that I've used back in the day.

Does that sound reasonable?

Doesn't sound crazy? Certainly if you were happy with their work in the past.

I would have though the window is a good of the bill? 50%? Then changing panels and messing about with hinges could take a while.

Looks like about £600 would cover the materials, so a grand for fitting

I would be surprised if they source the materials as cheap as that.

I had the local company fit the new panels (but not the replacement window) on Tuesday.

Got the final invoice this afternoon, but noticed that one of the internal rubber seals had dropped down.
Looking at them all, the outside trims are all tight, but the internal seals are a bit loose. If I press the edges of the glazing units from the inside, they move a mill or so. The original units in the other frames don't move at all.

These are the units in the conservatory. The new unit in the kitchen window is fine.

Do glazing units come in different thicknesses?

I'm going to ring them tomorrow.

Yes units come in 2mm increments. 4-20-4, 4-22-4 etc. I always remove a unit to get an accurate size.

Thanks. It feels like they are 2mm too thin, so the lip on the edge of the inner seal isn't being gripped by the frame properly

Yes I've seen it a few times, with older frames you could replace the gasket with thicker profile, but if the gasket is built in its a bit more troublesome.

The units were maybe stuck with double sided tape originally and they have used the wrong thickness tape when changing them. This is why I never change units for people unless it is a window I have fitted. Far too many potential problems, means it isn’t worth the hassle.

This guy tells you how to measure thickness of the unit at about 1:40 without removing the glass.

You can also get a tool to measure total thickness, basically large callipers, and also the thickness of the glass be refraction.

The local independent glazer who swapped some for me had both and made it look like childs play, direct replacement and not expesive.
Like £100 for a 18"x3ft window supplied and fitted, all be it 7 years ago.

They will survey and fit if you're wider Midlands area too.

They are doing our new bi-folds and kitchen window, good service so far!

A great reminder that I need to sort out some replacement conservatory glass.
Anyone got any other experiences of this (or other online glass manufacturers) for supply only (DIY install)?

Used these folks after watching a bit of youtube on how to replace some steamed up sealed units.

https://sealedunitsonline.co.uk/

and one of these for removing the beads

https://www.toolstation.com/prep-premier-heavy-dut...

The glass will be stamped (I think) but believe if it starts below a certain height it needs to be toughened.

And apologies to the OP for going off-piste. Good luck with your installation.

2 guys turned up yesterday, had a look, and replaced all the inner seals.
Seems to have done the job - seals tight, panels don't move.
