Long time lurker, having originally signed up to get notifications of cars for sale.

I've never had a V8 and fancy one before I go electric. I only do 5-6K miles a year and not concerned about low MPG from a V8.

- Needs to be a 4 seater as a minimum, no 2 seaters.
- Prefer 4/5 door but could live with a 2 door coupe
- Not worried about post 2006 high tax rates
- Will have contingency fund to deal with most issues
- £10K max

I realise I'm at the low end of the market and the potential for problems is high.

I've got my eye on a E500 twin turbo coupe. Are they better than the NA E500s?

There are loads of £5-6K S5s for sale which are tempting. Leaves me some money left over to buy an Aygo when it self destructs.

Any other suggestions?

Rear seats for people or for bags of shopping and coats?

If the latter is acceptable, Jaguar XKR.

Thanks. Rear seats for the dog or shopping only.

You could get a very nice CLS500 for that money. Or a rough CLS AMG. Similar in terms of tech and reliability to an E500, but feels much more special and nicer.

XF V8 or XFR also an option if you need more space

XFR, the rear seats fold down which can be useful at times.

not sure if a Monaro sneaks in at that price point but if so there's a lot to recommend it (mechanically simple) albeit with some concerns about body-panel replacements if damaged.

MGZT260. Again very simple mechanically speaking with a lovely noise and generally a nice place to be in

Totally left-field F150 Harley Davidson pick-up truck (supercharged, 380hp). Big, crude, obnoxious (in some people's eyes) but a whole lot of sideways fun

When I asked this question to myself a couple of years ago I ended up an a XFR. Stupidly quick and surprisingly reliable. Better value than any of the German equivalents.

And far more fun/character as well. If i was signing off from ICE with a £10k budget I'd struggle to find anything better.

Good suggestion, Jag XF. And one I'd forgotten, despite owning one!! You'll get more car for the money, and newer/lower mileage than a German.

You might just squeeze into an E93 M3 for that money.

Engine is utterly superb.

Not a chance. Maybe a decade ago.

With your funds I place for issues, how about a Quattroporte?

Lovely sound, and this has the ZF gearbox instead of the duo select.

I had a similar era Gran Turismo and didn't have any issues until a lorry reversed into it. Also that was a genuine 4 seater .

I am fond of mine. Spent the weekend blasting about Scotland in it. Comfy but surprisingly fun to drive. Dynoed at 504bhp before and 556bhp after a map!

Glorious. I see early GT's are also getting down toward the £10k mark.

A little more for this one, but what a ridiculous amount of car for £13.5k
