I sold my 2009 BMW 650 XCountry around October last year and have really missed having a bike; I’ve been a member of Copart for the last 10 months and kept an eye on bikes going through and bid (unsuccessfully) on a few.

A few days ago I saw a 2023 Triumph Trident for auction, and from I can see (I know….it’s Copart!) the primary damage is to the stator casing on the left side. The other issue is an ABS fault, which will stop the bike from running and from what I can gather from the Triumph forums, low battery voltage is the most likely cause and I hope this is related to the damaged stator. I did a vehicle check and it was Cat N in April this year and is being sold by the insurance company through Copart. It’s a gamble but I think it’s cheap enough and I like a project. It is probably not my first choice but I love the triple engine and it is hopefully a cheap way of getting back on the road.

Will keep the thread updated on how I get on. I’m in Durham and I’m getting quotes of £245 to get it delivered from Colchester via Shiply. Any other ideas for delivery? I do have a short wheel based Caddy van, which might be an option to collect myself.

Unfortunately the Bike Movers can’t do it so will have another look around if Shiply aren’t great.

Put it this way if you ask for a quotation and state you want to see their ID and insurance details before collection...

No one will quote

Agreed, but I am currently living in Durham so not quite so bad smile

Thanks for the recommendations; I’ve emailed a couple and so will hopefully hear back today otherwise it will be a trip in the Caddy next week.

No luck with any of the companies I tried so I built a ramp and left this morning at 5.30am; arrived at 11am and got back home at 5pm, so not too bad although I am tired! Copart were surprising helpful and a couple of guys helped me get it in the back of the van. This was the first long trip in the Caddy van after I replaced the clutch/flywheel/timing belt and repaired all the wiring after rats had chewed it (it belonged to my wife’s company and the gave it to me as scrap), so I was nervous about it breaking down but it ran fine.

Hopefully there isn’t too much wrong with the bike as I can’t wait to get it running…

Looks good. What do insurance companies think of a Cat N, any premium?

Cheers. In terms of Cat N I’m pretty sure they don’t ask, but obviously in the event of a claim it will reduce the payout.

Looks like a canny easy project to get you back up and running.

I’ll keep an eye out for you on the roads around here.

Thanks!

I found a cheap genuine alternator cover on eBay and fitted it yesterday, filled it with oil and it runs and sounds great. I can see why bikes are cat N when you consider the cost of parts and labour, and in this case the sump is scuffed and it isn’t cheap to replace (I won’t bother until I find one on eBay), and they probably allowed for damage to the stator. The radiator fairing is also scuffed but I hate the luminous yellow anyway and plan on repairing it and changing the colour. I’m glad it doesn’t need much more work as I’m currently staying at my brother’s empty house (we sold and are waiting to buy again) and it doesn’t have a garage, which is a pain!

The rear tyre is a brand new Michelin (can’t be more than a few miles), and I wonder if the previous owner got it fitted and lost it riding home….

It things like this that make me consider a Cat N something from Copart. I could change a Stator no problem. I saw an E-2008 the other day (for my wife) that looked like it was Cat N for a crunched front splitter.

But, I've not done it yet for fear of something much worse hiding behind the obvious.

You mussed be pretty chuffed with yourself for that job?

Good job ,well done .
Do you have to get it inspected now to go back on the road .
What sort of inspection is it ?

Thanks! It’s just Cat N (non structural damage) so no inspection.

Nice purchase! I've had my trident for 6 months now, really enjoying the bike.
