I need help, advice, opinion.

Ive been looking to scratch an itch, the GT3, some stunning 992.1's around that tick the boxes.

However, looking at the price, the 992.2 4GTS is around the same price (if not slightly less), newer car, longer warranty, more bhp, quicker 0-60, and the potential to be a proper daily.

So, is it a better car than the 992.1 GT3? What am I missing?

Help!

Define 'better' ? objectively they are both highly capable 911's, but only one of them is a GT3.

The real question is which one is better, for you?

And as has been said, you need to drive an example of each.

Great problem to have, enjoy the shopping.

The 992.2 GTS 4wd is ridiculously heavy for a ‘911’

Do you want a Turbo engine car which is 225KG more weight and 4WD ?

Or a GT3 which is none of those things and quite a busy car to drive.

I dislike turbo cars for fun I dislike 4WD for fun I dislike heavy cars for anything.

But some owners are Badge buyers and the 4WD GTS is a safer car to drive and have zero interest how a car drives.

I don't drive my 992 GT3 as a daily, but I do drive another Porsche as a daily, So I would say buy both.

Unless retired I would not daily a GT3. I always think you need 4 cars at least to cover all bases although 5 is better, so no such thing as 992.2 4 GTS vs a GT3 imo. A 992 4 GTS is like a Posh Golf R :-) so you could buy a GT3 and a Golf R !

992.1 GT3, Head & Heart, but would probably take a 991.2 GT3 over both in PTS.

I currently drive a 992.1 4 GTS and am having similar thoughts for my next change, but I think I am going to go the GT3 Touring route, with 18 way seats, as this is a special car, which, at my age! I can also use as a daily drive. However, I haven’t rules out a 992.1 TTS ( my wife has a back condition which rules out bucket seats)

Absolutely gts as a daily , gt3 as weekend car .
Gt3 is utterly brilliant but the opportunity to utilise its engine properly is very limited on public roads .

GTS is faster so makes no sense.

Anything over 300hp today is very limited on public roads.

You can potter about in a GT3 if you wish, it's not the engine as to why I don't it's how busy the drive is vs my GTS.

Have done 6k miles in both 2 WD and 4 GTS 992.2. Hybrid Cabs so far this year.

Brilliant cars, its great that the GTS gets it own engine now, as equally impressive as the speed and power 0-60 under 2.5 is US tests is the balance and the way the car drives, the engine sits 100mm lower now it really helps with the balance over the last ones, also the damping and steering has been improved, it now has a much wider range in comfort and sports mode. Personally i think its the best all round daily car that they have made for a long time, and its sounds great.

992.1. GT3 as daily also.
For daily use i would take the GTS above, but if its for the Odd track day i would take the GT3, you can daily a PDK 992.1 GT3 fine i did 17k miles in mine in as many months, but if i had to pick one as a daily car it would be the GTS every time, it just has a bigger range of comfort than the GT3, and press a few buttons when the road condition's allow and its great fun also, you have to work the GT3 a lot harder to find the fun spots also.

The gt3 needs revs , so you are going ridiculously fast already when the magic happens , yes you can potter about in it but you are missing most of the fun .I had one for 5 years and used it a lot but the nature of its performance means you end up travelling way too fast and ultimately I found cars with more torque lower down are better suited for British roads as you can experience the performance at more sensible speeds .

That’s kind of my problem with the 992 GTS. Mine feels like I’m in a slightly posher Audi S3 and isn’t exciting or eventful until on some decent roads and at higher speeds - and I’ve got the RWD manual. There’s no steering feel whatsoever at low speed and the engine sounds flat.

I know the OP is looking at a .2 so it’s probably different but if he wants any kind of excitement and doesn’t need to daily drive it I’d say it has to be a GT3.

And I agree with your statement about needing 4/5 cars to cover all bases - it’s just a bit expensive!

Really appreciate all the feedback and opinions so far.

4 / 5 cars would certainly do it, if only....

For the sort of money we are talking, it would pain me to leave it sat on the drive, that being said, it doesn't have to be daily, ive got a 'run around' and im only commuting a few days a week.

Part of my concern with the GT3 is that im not going to use it to its potential, but, its a GT3!

I had considered the 992.1 4GTS, but im currently in a 992.1 C4S, and it doesn't feel like too much of a change.

Ive gone round in circles on it a few times.

Good advice on driving both, yet to do that, but its good yo hear from the poster that has put several thousand miles on both.

Buy the GT3. Everyone needs to own one at some point in their lives. They’re intoxicating

If or when it gets too much / annoying buy the GTS

I’m in a 992.1 c4s - can I ask what’s not quite doing it for you?

In sport plus I think the car is more than almost anyone viably needs on the road or can handle.

I’ve been down this path and my conclusion will wait until 992.2 gts or artura are a bit cheaper and just enjoy what I have, maybe with the Lichfield stage 2 in the interim which is only 4k and takes the car to 600hp

Just to add, I went into the Peak District in a gt3 rs and the floor was scraping in various places.

I question the improvement of gt3 or carrera with sport pasm on a lot of roads vs just pressing the suspension button with normal pasm

Happy to be educated from someone without cognitive dissonance!

Oh dont get me wrong, ive loved every moment in my C4S, its been fantastic, its not that its not doing it for me, its just that natural progression, itchy feet thing.

I think you have it wrong…

992.1 GT3 or 992.1 Turbo S

Why would you choose a 4WD GTS hybrid over the daddy turbo S.

The Turbo S is much better daily than the GTS.
