Old Military Road in the Cairngorms
Discussion
I did in my V8V last September, en-route to Inverness, to start the NC500. I did it purely on the strength of Henry Catchpole’s epic YouTube video.
For anyone south of the border, doing the NC500 anti-clockwise, it’s a worthwhile alternative to the quick route to Inverness and great taster of what’s to come

Nice videos to give a flavour - and your wife learnt to hold the camera steady after her comment in the third one down.https://youtu.be/Z2-PflqSFGo?si=9WTZJuxKk4j22Oqq

I was surprised at how much of a switchback the road was in places.

I'm doing this route up to inverness on Friday and a quick 3 day blast around the NC500. Soooo looking forward to it after watching the videos
You’ll love it. I’ve had to drive some of roads a few times. To be honest quite a number of roads around where we are are almost as good and have some great visibility so you can make good progress. This thread was perfectly timed for me - thank you. We were staying not a million miles away from Cairn Gorm, and after a mega walk the day prior, a sunny June run out in a loop was great fun in my V12V.
Probably the best sustained driving road I've been on in the UK. Even the 40mph Honda Jazz drivers politely pulled in - creating several hours of driving joy.

Excellent! Glad you managed to find the time to drive it. I have to agree it’s an awesome road, I managed a good section of it one evening (the first video taster) then a drive up to Balmoral and return. There are so many roads up there in Scotland that give you an opportunity to make good progress and have some real driving fun.Probably the best sustained driving road I've been on in the UK.
