Morning folks.
I have never fancied Turkey as a holiday destination. Allways said I wasn't interested and it wasn't on my wish list of places.
So, where are we going on holiday next month? Turkey. 10 days in Fethiye.
Can anyone recommend anything they think is worth seeing, doing, eating or drinking!
I also fancy maybe an offroad safari, quad bike, go karting, maybe even a bit of motorbiking.
Does anyone know this area that could tell me what's good and what isn't.
The historical weather stats for July are a tad on the warm side....looks like it will be low to mid 30's so at least that bit will be fab.
One further question, there seems to be conflicting reports via google on if we need to get some vaccinations beforehand. Anyone know definitively what we would need.
Cheers
Brian

I don't think you need vaccination for Turkey, I go every summer as in laws retired there. The website below sums up nicely but you should definitely arrange a good boat trip (a day at least). Some of the coast are just unreal. The prices are mad though, if you shop around outside of your hotel, in Turkey now every holiday town is literally more expensive than Spain, so be careful always check prices.

There are so many cats around, some of them are quite feral, in every bloody fish restaurant they are just coming and asking for food. Watch out for them, they might not be jabbed.

This is very helpful, I'm heading to Fethiye myself on Sunday.https://sandaltanman.com/fethiye-guide/

I was the same OP - never had any interest in going to Turkey but I had to go to Ankara for a business trip just a few weeks ago and had a great trip. Transit at Istanbul airport was a breeze - airport is very modern and well laid out if that is the route you are flying in. No vaccinations needed; and if you are flying with Turkish they were IMO one of the best airlines I've flown with in the recent times.
We've just got back from 16 nights in Fethiye. 5 nights at the Liberty Signa (highly recommend, already booked the Fabay next door for next year!) and 11 at dads villa up in Uzumlu. Amazing trip, love the country, its scenery and food!
Massively more expensive than it used to be...watch out for the airports. 120lira for a beer in Fethiye, 450lira at the airport. That's as expensive as Abu Dhabi for a pint!
A trip into Oludeniz is worth it although massively more touristy than it used to be, still pretty though. Would have liked to do the cable car that now goes up the mountain but didnt want to try and entertain a 1 year old for the trip up. Last time I went up that mountain to do the parasailing the drive up was so ropey I happily chose running off the edge with a parachute than driving back down!
Definitely do the five islands tour. We also had an amazing day on a private boat travelling down Dalyan. Never seen so many turtles in the wild.
Fethiye itself has come on a long way too. The old town is beautiful and there's now a new promenade lined with restaurants that have an amazing view at sunset. Thoroughly recommend Manchero's.
Calis beach is great, Gocek also. Saklikent is a little further out but the gorge walk is good fun as is the water rafting.
The list is endless, enjoy!

I have to agree on it, as much as I like going to Turkey, their airports need a commercial inspection. It has become a complete robbery, from Antalya to Bodrum, almost all their airports charging excessive prices (sometimes they are purely hiding the menus and prices). Unlike most of their local retails, they are friendly and provide top service often.Edited by Marshall878 on Wednesday 18th June 12:54
We went to Antalya back on Jul 2023, and this was the minimum daily temperature....

The coolest part of the day saw 28C at 5am in the morning
Went up to 45C one day but I didn't have my phone to take a picture!
We had a nice holiday in the hotel, but we couldn't do anything outdoors as it was just way too hot. Unsurprisingly, I haven't booked another summer holiday abroad since!

Definitely a place to go just as the season is starting as it does get hot!
We live in the UAE so summer has already started here, having lows of 20-25 and highs of 30-35 was absolutely perfect....although the pool being 24 degrees was a shocker but it was gradually rising every day, think it was 29 by the time we left.
Lovely and cool after the sun sets and not overly hot during the day that you're restricted to staying indoors.
We did have 2 days of rain and an earthquake at the start of the trip though

Just returned from a few days in Fethiye, staying a 10-min walk west of the old town. A few points which the OP may find of interest:
I'd have found it helpful to have had some pound sterling and euros in cash with me at various times
For a varied and tasty traditional menu head for Mozaik Bahce, an almost 'secret garden' of a restaurant - no reservations allowed but very short wait times
For a special occasion, a marina setting but less traditional menu try Mori at the Yacht Classic - book a day or so ahead
If you plan to have a Hamam do it early in your holiday so that your tan isn't scrubbed away
There are dozens of boat tours but we can recommend captain & crew on Incilay (contactable FB messenger Incilay Fethiye)
Don't get carried away with the range of delicious turkish delight - that weight adds up and so does the bill!

That's good to hear we've got a week at Signa booked for August. Massively more expensive than it used to be...watch out for the airports. 120lira for a beer in Fethiye, 450lira at the airport. That's as expensive as Abu Dhabi for a pint!

It's going to be hot!
Currently bobbing around on / near Gulf of Fethiye
We go often and as said the Yacht classic is nice, I wouldn’t relish swimming in the sea with 2milesnof Fethiye or maybe just spoilt to see the clear blue from the boats we charter.
Fish market is fun, not just tourist, Haman in Town is a regular for us too.
We are finding prices vary a lot.
Gocek was UK prices, out at Keci Buku taverna day light robbery, last night here at Captain Nemos’ (all via yacht) was reasonable for the effort they go to

Ask for prices up front.

Exactly. You will be surprised how much discount suddenly they start to release (especially if it's not full)
It's a shame really, I really like the hospitality and culture there but last few years the attitude of "ripping off" becomes quite a normal there.

Amazing country El Pres is ruining, says most. The Hyper inflation is making it very difficult for the locals.

I agree it is has become much more scammy in recent years. I used to reccommend it a lot for a beach holiday as it has the big resort style hotels. However, in the last few years it's felt very customer hostile with high prices and scams at every turn. Watch out for taxi drivers in particular s one was close to abducting me for not paying 5x the fair.
