Rain X on a car body?

So today I caught my neighbour applying his "car cleaning hack" once every 2 months he washes his car. Applys his demon shine, then Rain X's his whole car. I've exsplaned that there is a whole lot different ceramic and other spray sealer he could be using. However he swears that nothing keeps his car as clean or helps during the washing cycle like the complete car under a layer of rain x. Is this a thing... Is this a genuine hack! It's certainly cheaper than a ceramic spray.... But I've never heard of this "hack"!

IME RainX marrs the paintwork - now demonshine is awful silicone based stuff so you probably can’t tell with putting RainX over the top of it!

If he just washed and waxed his car properly he wouldn’t need such stupid “hacks” and would get away with a hose down and a detail spray top-up only.

its some harsh smelling stuff , as said why not one of the hundreds or waxes or sprays that are meant for paint?

I imagine it will have a decent initial effect on rain and muck prevention.

Harmful? Probably not if the paint/lacquer is in decent condition. Some of the newer stuff like Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic Solution can be used on paint/windows/chrome/plastic/alloys.

I have some leftover CarPlan No.1 that can be used on everything, but it says to avoid alloys, but I still use it on the alloys of my Mum & Dads cars.

I dont know about RainX, but I think its the same/ very similar to Ritec, this only bonds to glass or ceramic, it does not bond to metal or painted surfaces.

I use that Car Plan No 1 on my artic cab paintwork, for the price its superb stuff, easy to use for the unprofessional.
