As I understand it recyclable plastic comes in many different chemical formulas and it can’t just be bunged in one machine. It needs to be sorted first. Do they actually do that? By hand?

From memory, plastics usually sorted by machine is a specialist facility - lightweight stuff is blown off, remainder is sorted optically as different plastics have different properties for reflectivity and refraction.

Once separated into types, it’s then recycled.

There should be stuff easily found on internet, as it’s been a while since I looked at this stuff, and there are others on PH who know this stuff well.

I found this very interesting, and disturbing, when I watched it a few months ago.
