BMW AUC - due to collect shortly but new MOT has advisory
Discussion
Test drove a BMW Approved Used car at the weekend and agreed a price with the main dealer.
Car had an MOT done by the dealer in January this year. Passed with no advisories.
As part of the AUC scheme they did another MOT on it on Friday, presumably to give me 12 months' fresh MOT. This MOT has thrown up an advisory: Rear Prop shaft flexible coupling slightly deteriorated propshaft to rear differential (6.1.7 (d) (i)
As this is presumably xDrive related, what would you do in my situation?
I've not parted with the main funds for the car yet, only for some of the additional packages I sucked up from the dealer.

4.5 years old with 62,000 miles
2 previous MOTs passed with no advisories
Seemed fine on the test drive which was over 7-8 miles.
I've read the AUC Warranty terms and can't identify for sure if the coupling is covered, or would not be covered because it was listed as an advisory or as wear and tear. But I think where the terms refer to advisories under the MOT cover section, it means advisories listed at the NEW MOT rather than the previous one.
I've sent an email to the dealer flagging up my concern, which will hopefully be in my favour if any issues do arise in the future.
I intend to get the gearbox oil changed in around another 10,000 miles, not just yet.
If they do agree to fix/replace the coupling, would this be fast for the MOT test station i.e. as a retest just on that component rather than them having to do the whole test again?

If they fix it they won't also go to the expense of the re-test as it has a vaild MOT that it has passed, they will document the work for you and you keep that with the MOT history so it can be shown as 'acted on', advisories don't require a re-test post correction.2 previous MOTs passed with no advisories

Hope they sort it and enjoy the new car.
Worth asking if they’ll sort it, but at that age and mileage it’s just a bit of wear and tear IMO. Might be a zealous tester, a bit of perishing, or something more severe like it’s starting to tear. They should be able to throw it on a ramp and grab a picture if you’re worried and they won’t change it out.

They should sort it no questions asked and I'd be surprised if they didnt. Just ring them up , don't worry about MOT can take it in upto a month early next year so still within 12month warranty periodIt’s not a 5 series is it and from bmw in north west somewhere can’t remember which one. Only I was looking at one on bmw site and done a mot check and found it had been mot’d a day or so before with advisory for this so thought its obviously sold and said to myself I’d ask them to replace this beforehand save a £400/£500 job later on. I’d want it done if it’s been an advisory.

It is indeed the same car you're talking about!I'm happy that they've agreed to replace the coupling.
Otherwise, like you, I wouldn't want the car any more, it being an advisory job and potentially problematic with the xDrive etcetera.
