Problem when cold pulling away ....

Griff 500 - 1999 ...... starts totally fine when cold ...... ticks over totally fine when cold ....... but when you try and pull away it tries immediately to die!

You have to dip the clutch, let it settle down and then give it alot of revs before trying to pull away. If you just try to give it some more revs once it starts to try and die it won't take it and pushing the throttle makes it behave like you are flooding it and makes it worse. Unless you catch it quickly it stalls and then doesn't like restarting..... just like you've flooded it.

It's just like a car misbehaving that has a choke - except it's injected .... ?

Does anyone have any ideas. It's not due a service and has just been checked out by Austec. They found nothing wrong and the cars producing around 270bhp which is exactly what it produced when last rolling roaded a couple of years ago. It runs - once you have managed that initial pulling away thing - totally Ok and goes as the rolling road suggests .... just like intended.

I have tried letting it tick over for a minute or so when started but it doesn't really help .....

It's effectively a standard car - as far as I know - with the exception I understand of being sorted on a rolling road by Mark Adams at Austec before I owned it.

Have you tried cleaning the stepper motor?

something to do with the ecu,,,? some sensor playing up?.

does the revs hunt around more than usual at idle (stepper)

No, revs are fine ..... it ticks over a little higher than the book says (1,000-1100 rpm) but I believe thats as a result of what Mark Adams did.

If you have a meter then there are some simple checks you can do on some of the sensors.

Check the throttle pot and also make sure the AFM is not touching anything that could ground the case.

There is a test for the sensors in the PDF doc on this page of my site.

Mine does this, but not as bad as described above. I just leave it to warm up properly before setting off (never a bad thing) and its fine. Just been given a clean bill of health from my local indie so i'm satisfied.

Many thanks for the replies ...... if others do it then I'm not so unhappy - the Chimaera post seems exactly the same!

I have had the car checked at Austec and they said it was 100% OK ..... as I say, it's only the first time pulling away. The car certainly goes well enough otherwise
