Ok so we are hoping to drive to northern Spain via France in August.

If anyone could help with a good route and recommend any hotels with good safe parking that would be great.
We are looking at maybe 5 days through France, 10 days around northern Spain and then 5 days back through France on a different route.

We will use euro tunnel to cross the channel and will be driving a 23 Porsche cayman GTS, so good driving roads are a must.

Any help much appreciate.

I m planning similar for next summer, if northern Spain then San Sebastián is highly thought of and a must if you are a foodie , then head across to the picos de Europa for driving roads, there are a couple of good paradors which appear to offer good parking options in and around that area. Then head east to Burgos and Logrono and into the Pyrenees and drive the n260. Overnight in vielha - another parador, and finish near Perpignan near the coast.

Did a 10 day driving tour of Northern Spain last October - did not take UK car but flew to Madrid - hired a BMW X3 and then drove North.
Stayed in quite a few paradors - stayed at Plasencia, Salamanca,La Guardia,Can Franc Estacion (oi the Pyrenees on the border with France), Pamplona, Logrona, Segovia and then back to Madrid.
Couple of observations -
- a lot of the hotel car parks particularly in town were a nightmare to park in - I was glad I was in a rental car. A lot were underground accessible by very narrow ramps complete with grooves in the wall etc were previous occupants had failed to avoid the walls or lifts which were not that big.
- roads were excellent and quiet off the main routes.
- wine and drinks very good and very reasonably priced. Rioja and Ribuero reds are superb.
- food - disappointing. Northern Spain inland is the land of meat(pork/ham) and potatoes- not that much seafood that you get on the coast. We went to lots and lots of tapas bars and tapas were Ok.

I'd suggest googling / Chat GPT'ing the question: How bad is the congestion between France and Spain in August.... just to set your expectation for at least several days. It'll be great getting there, and while you are there though!
