A new series.

Why do people go to so much trouble to avoid paying the correct fare?

Tip for regular fare dodgers - don't wear the same clothes every day.

A friend of mine got busted some time ago for not paying on one of the trains he took every day into London, they basically made him pay about £2k in installments, that he owed in fares as they'd been tracking him for a long time. Could afford it but with no turnstiles on that train he just thought he could get away with it.

I've watched a couple of episodes of this.

Not sure how much those revenue inspectors get paid, but I doubt it's sufficient compensation for the amount of verbal and physical abuse they receive.

Why do people evade fares? Sense of entitlement, low chance of getting caught, no fear of the consequences? As one genius said when he was stopped at the gateline, "I'm not paying for transport" (or words to that effect).

Watched one last night, fare dodgers are self-entitled knobs!

Revenue Protection people... Well it's a good thing they clearly failed to get into the Police biglaugh they play very fast and loose with the way they stop people, I'm not sure everyone they talk too feels they are 'free to leave at any time', I might react poorly if they tried it on me, and I pay my fares!

I could tell you why quite easily...if I want to travel to London tomorrow from Bristol Parkway for a meeting and return the same day it will cost me..... £192.39. For a journey that's 80 miles and takes 1hr 15 mins.

That's the crime right there!

Oh dear!

I have just looked and it's £80 return to travel today.

Much cheaper, of course if it is 6 weeks hence.

Yep, and that's what I used to do for my commute into London, however those tickets are not flexible and non refundable, so if you can keep work organised 6 weeks in advance then ok, its still £80 though, which is still a criminal cost.

Similar going to London from Stafford, cheapest in around £100 return but a dog slow train, or an Avanti West Coast at around £250.

Not a socialist but certain things should never be privatised.

Instead need a competitive public sector. Pay based on performance etc.
