Hi Folks

After some thoughts and advice, particularly if any of you have a professional opinion?

The other day I took my teenage daughter to the dentist. She has a payment plan in place as there is no NHS dentistry in our county.

The dentist does their usual check up and this time uses a camera to look at her back teeth. The very last tooth on the bottom has no decay, but the dentist says it has some deep groves which could cause a future problem, this is despite her using an electric toothbrush.

The dentist shows me the photo and says you can see that there is not much enamel, as the middle upper surface of the tooth is a slight beige colour, compared to the tooth on the opposite side which is bright white. The dentist says this beige colour is the dentine which suggests the enamel is quite thin.

They suggest putting a white filler on the tooth, to prevent future problems occurring. which in this case would be decay due to the deep grooves in the tooth.
They have said there will be no drilling of the tooth and this is just a preventative measure.

I have never heard of this kind of treatment before, Would this be because I have only been a private patient in the last five years and this is not something the NHS would offer to either me or my daughter?

Obviously there is a cost obligation to the treatment. it's only £150, but I did wonder if this was purely a way to make some more money? My daughter's teeth are very good and apart from the yearly payment plan she is not bringing anything else into the practice?

I would appreciate any comments

Thanks
