A shock tonight but I suppose it shouldn't be.
Brian Wilson passed today at the age of 82.
I grew up listening to the Beatles and the Beach Boys. The Beach Boys songs, sun, sea, cars, teenage love and sorrow. I still listen now, I'm 10 years younger than Brian, and still sing along. Little Deuce Coupe, She's real fine my 409. Surfs up. Hope you catch a wave in heaven Brian.

As mentioned by the op the title track to Surf’s Up is a work of art.
So long Brian Wilson.

He was incredible.

It cost $70,000 to record this:

I love just the opening of this song alone (of course I do), it s perfect

It is amazing that such beauty can come from such pain. Mental illness is not a nice thing but maybe it is something we all need to accept a bit better - in our ourselves and others - and care for, because without it we would not have the creativity that humans need.

My wife just said, "Oh, no! I hadn't heard he'd died. He did all that campaigning to protect badgers."

Sad news but not too surprising I guess, i'm 44 and grew up with my dad listening to Beach Boys songs, they remind me of happy family summer holidays. I still listen to their music now occasionally.

Really upset me last night I have to admit. My Dad was a huge fan so growing up they were always on in the car, to the point at Dads funeral we had him brought in to ' I get around'. Such an amazing talent Brian had and really is very much the passing of an era. I'm only 46 but it seems very very raw.

I grew up with my mum playing lots of the Beach Boys.

I’m not a “best album” sort of person, but if pushed I would put Pet Sounds at my number 1.

As it so happens my mum celebrated her 80th birthday on the same day he died.

Absolute genius and he had such a sad life. His artistic rivalry with the Beatles was all the more extraordinary when you consider that he was doing the jobs of Lennon & McCartney and George Martin on his own. Created and recorded eight albums of music in two years, no wonder the pressure was too much.

We were lucky enough to see him premiere Smile at the Royal Festival Hall and we saw him again a couple of times after that. The last concert at The Albert Hall, we were at the side of the stage, 20 feet away from him. He came onto stage a frail old man but transformed as soon as he was sat at his piano. Never to be forgotten.
