Evening. I'm looking to gift someone a really nice box of chocolates. Largest Thorntons box looks ok but looking for something a bit more. Hotel Chocolat do some nice "hampers" but a google search throws up Amelie. £65 for a nice looking range of chocolates.

Anyone heard of them? Anyone got any alternatives?

Simon.

Having spent a lot of time in Switzerland, I'm a sucker for Lindt. They have some nice stuff that can be ordered online.

Handmade and delivered fresh macarons.
They are made in Edinburgh.
I used to send them to my Grandma for birthday etc.
She really liked them

Love Lindt. Do they do boxes? I'm looking around the £60-£80 mark?

Läderach (if you can get it in the UK) or Pierre Marcolini

Oh they do!!! £95 for a 2kg box that you can chose what you want to go in there. Sounds good to me. Thanks for that

I won a box of Hotel Chocolat chocolates a couple of weeks ago.

They were rubbish, so much so that I chucked half of them in the bin. And I almost spat one of them out.

I thought about them but someone said they'd been bought out and the quality has been sacrificed for profit.

Think I'm going for the Lindt box.

Hotel Chocolat have gone massively downhill from the excellent chocolates they used to make. I have used Amelie, but only for the cherry selection, very nice.

We discovered Be Chocolate in Brighton which are very nice - https://bechocolatbrighton.com/

Thank you, a nice interesting alternative. I'm giving Hotel Chocolat a miss.

I think you have to go a long way to beat Charbonnel et Walker

Or F&M usually hit the spot

It depends where you are, for mainstream stuff chabonnelies as mentioned a few posts up are excellent and were a favourite of Princess Margaret.

Ideally seek out an indie artisinal, we have a spectacular one in Chiswick (Philip Neal) who trained and worked in Paris. His google ratings reflect the total indifference to customer service but his chocolates are stunning.

I’ll stand by “Patchi” as my go to for a box of something good that the recipient recognises as being good & “different”

Big in the Middle East (I first had in Dubai) their boxes are in my view exceptional, I like the fact they are individually wrapped

Being a cherry lover I just looked that up, not delivering because of warm weather! But that’s going on my shopping list!

Rococo chocolates (online, plus they have shops in Marylebone and the King's Road) are v delicious and also beautifully made and presented. My go to posh chocs.

Eyewateringly expensive since the founder sold out a year or two ago and the new owner jacked up the prices, but the quality is still there. Worth it for a special occasion.

This thread (due to me seeing the very occasional bar of Cadburys Dairy Milk as a special treat) makes me feel inadequate smile

This would be my go-to.

However chocolate everywhere has rocketed in price this past year or so.

Raw cocoa has increased in price by 95%
