Hi all,

Would appreciate some input please. I fell in love with a super rare 458 that main dealer couldn’t sell for 12 months. They ended up losing 18k to sell it. I didn’t buy it as it would be hard to re sell even though i’m in love.

My plan is to buy a black one which i can re sell and then wrap it to look the same and then take the wrap off before i sell.

The issue being i met a guy today who seems to know his stuff who said dealers would see the colour change on the dvla and wouldn’t want to re sell the car and also it affects the prestige of the car if it was once wrapped.

I get that if the paint gets damaged but if not as the wrap company is very good i was left confused.

Any feedback on if he gave good advice would be appreciated!

Thanks

andrew

Maybe English isn’t your first language but a bit of clarity would be good please.

The first post was entirely clear. I'm not surprised one of the answers was pointless given the author but not sure why they both are.

OP: I certainly think colour change due to paint might be an issue but I'd be surprised if a wrap that's been removed would be. But you might do best to call a couple of dealers and get their opinion if you're worried about it.

What was so rare about the original car? Not sure if that adds up really.

You don't have to report a colour change to dvla on a wrap

Because it was the only paint job of its type ever sent to the UK according to the guy at Ferrari Meridian in Lyndhurst. Here is a picture for you.

Do a quick google. I thought the same but if you change a car from black to grey for example its actually illegal not to! It comes with a £1000 if you get caught having not told them….

Yikes, not surprised that took a while to sell then.

You did well to not buy that IMHO.. Probably a car you would be married to.. never heard of the wrap DVLA change, if true, everyday a learning day.

Is it feasible to find a car in a factory grey? The DVLA I'm sure won't then care about it not being exactly the same shade for a short while.

...and yes, you do need to tell them. Plenty don't bother and choose to gamble with being pulled over etc.

You should have bought the car you fell in love with. The reason it didn’t sell was that it was overpriced not because the spec was poor.

Now you’re going to mess about with the expense and hassle of a wrap and the residual value hit when selling a previously wrapped car. Together, they probably add up to as much as the hit you’d have taken buying the unmolested car in the spec you actually wanted.

You’ve missed your chance now, but the number one rule of supercar buying is to buy the car you want, not the car you think the next owner will want.

The car looks quite nice to me. Even though I’m not a fan of bin-bag grey, it makes a nice change from boring old black or rosso corsa (and that’s coming from someone with a history of two cars in rosso corsa).

It just goes to show that there’s potentially a bum for every seat hehe

Indeed, the fact it exists tells you that there’s always someone with alternative taste! It’s absolutely not for me, not in a million years and I honestly don’t think it looks good at all.

There was also a brown 488 Spider that hung around at DL until it was eventually bought. The brown paint and cloth interior actually worked ok but I couldn’t get away from the fact that it was a brown Ferrari.
