Well... annoys, leaves you cold, you plain old dislike.

For me, off the top of my head.

1. Peugeot
Like a pre-pubescent boy jodded this off one afternoon. Or like your dad got hammered, watched the Fifth Element and had a go at knocking something up.

Such a shame, as I think from the exterior they do a much better job than some of their group mates. Even their choice of available paint colours is pretty great. but I can't sit in front of this:

Which in the sportier trims doesn't look better for sticking a red light over it, and tossing a load of alcantara in.

2. BMW
Bit obvious, but I hate this. I'll always hate the new front design. No, I won't get used to it. Also an absolute monstrosity given how car design in the electric age is going. Not even worth a picture.

Are they rowing back on this? I'm sure the latest 2 series couple looks nice.

I quite like the shape of the 208 - if they did a hot version I wouldn’t mind one in the nice blue I see around

Yes they've just announced one: https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/peugeot/208/new-peug...
But this is what prompted the thought really, as for me it's a bit marred by the interior.

Defo let it be said that each brand's design must appeal to someone and it's good not to have one homogenous design - but equally I think it's ok for someone to be put off by an interior on the basis that you're sat in this for potentially a few hours every day.

Saw a 308 in a lovely green, but again the interior design doesn't even connect visually with the exterior for me.

I agree about Peugeot, the interiors are horrendous which is a shame as they make some quite nice looking cars. The same applies to Mercedes, only more so.

BMW, Mercedes, Audi. The super-sized front grille look in general. It looks even more idiotic on EVs too.

Saw the latest Hyundai Kona the other day and with all the lines and creases it looked the designers had used a Lego model as inspiration.

100% on BMW grilles. Plus when you see them in the flesh, the cars are enormous.

Lexus. They seem to be all over the place the last decade or so (though they get bonus points for the LC).

Two Lexus household here to disclose where I’m coming from.
I primarily buy them for their quality and pretty much despite what they look like.
But somehow they look better as they age. I can’t think of too may makers you can say that about.

Previous generation of Peugout has much more harmonious fascia design , even though you need driver s seat high to see it all, at least it s inoffensive and clean and avoids the I- pad look. The Previous 308 looks quite classy as Peugeot were aping the restrained Golf. I may have to hand in my PH card, but I m getting used to the oversized BMW. grilles. Few complained about Rolls having a huge Roman temple as a grille.

Both the current and previous generation 208 are a bit odd as you have to look over the wheel to see the instrument panel.
The previous gen has "mood lighting" - a 3 inch long light between the dials which is invisible to the driver as the wheel is in the way. Took me a week to spot it in mine

The current gen is a bit cluttered inside, but is a very decent vehicle and you soon get used to the dash - have had a couple as hire cars in France/Belgium.

BMW seem hell bent on creating ugly cars - current 1 series, 4 series, 5 series, 7 series, M3 and most of the X cars. All with grills in varying degrees of awful.

The 2 series coupe and normal 3 series look decent, the 8 coupe / grand coupe are nice, albeit the size of Texas.

In the 90s (as a teen) BMW was a brand most car fans would aspire to - an attainable but desirable car (e.g. E36 325 coupe)

I think the rot set in during the Bangle era ("flame surfacing" designs), but those cars look like beauties compared to the current crop.

I also think the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is decent looking.

I ended up with a last gen 208 by accident and was really impressed by it. It's stayed in the family and my brother has taken it to 160k with nothing but neglect and abuse and it keeps going. I liked the interior a lot, I liked the way it drove, it felt light and the 1.6d with 95bhp gave it plenty of go for a hatch. Really rate them and would have one over a Fiesta.

Current one is a great looking car but have to agree about the interior, although to be fair get in a modern Lamborghini and it's the same naff teenage boy stuff in a not dissimilar style but higher quality.

Sadly my ex wife bought a 5008 brand new in 2022 and it's been the opposite of my 208; unreliable, horrid to drive, glitchy, and basically fallen to bits.

Probably a contentious answer, but Aston Martin. I find that so many of their designs are ruined because they feel the need to massively over exaggerate the shapes, lines and features. The grilles on all their current cars are far too big, to the point where they look like caricatures. It’s a shame, because with more restraint and confidence they could be truly beautiful cars.

To be honest, I can’t think of too many brands doing it particularly well. Volvo and Polestar maybe?
