Taking my eldest to Heathrow this week. I’ve got a 3am start to drop her off about 6.30 /7.00, before turning round and same length drive back home.
Rather than the usual service station fodder, wondered if anyone could recommend anywhere around Heathrow or within an hours drive north (heading back up M1) for breakfast.

There's a good transport cafe just off J9 M1 called Watling St Truck Stop.

No need to have a HGV to visit there tongue out

For some reason, this thread has got me engaged.

I can't actually think of anywhere that I've been to, but just to warn the OP, looking at google reviews on the Flamstead Truckstop it would appear that the Cafe is no longer there.

However, I am very familiar with the area around Heathrow and there's a cafe in West Drayton that gets good reviews on Google (The Griddle Cafe). From West Drayton it's pretty easy to get back onto the M4 for the M25, or if you're like me and don't like going the wrong way, you can head up through Iver and join the M25 via the M40. Finding somewhere to leave the car in West Drayton shouldn't be too hard.

Depends on what you're looking for.

Others have mentioned cafes, but if you're looking for somehing a bit more fancy then there's a bunch of hotels around Heathrow that do buffet breakfasts.

Ace Cafe - on your general route back (kinda), open from 8am, usually some cool stuff knocking around and the breakfast selection is pretty decent for the price.

The other thing to bear in mind is you're getting dangerously close to school drop off time. Unless you're back on the road by 8am guaranteed, I wouldn't be leaving the motorway network.

We often use the Toby carvery at Slough Langley, its just past the m25 junction but its literally a couple of minutes.

Reasonable help yourself buffet style.

Thanks all, few things to look at. Would enjoy a trip to Ace Cafe but think heading further into London will be a no go.
