Best authentic Chinese in Nottingham
Discussion
Hey guys, I'm in Nottingham next month with a few colleagues, trying to find somewhere decent for us to eat on at least one of the nights we're in town.
We all like authentic Chinese food, so can anyone with some local knowledge give me a recommendation for the best or most authentic Chinese restaurant in town?
If it has chicken feet, pig feet, tripe and intestine on the menu, this is the kind of place we're after. If they serve some ferociously spicy Sichuanese dishes, even better.
I've looked on Trip Advisor etc, but half the the time the highest rated 'authentic' places turn out to be battered chicken balls and packet sweet and sour sauce type places, which obviously I'm keen to avoid.

if you can go during the day for the Dim sum you shouldn't be disappointed.

Chungs is terrible, man s in wollaton is better by miles, man s in the city centre is also better. Neither are as good as the mandarin.
It has always been superb whenever I've been, though fair to say it's been a while. Their minced quail dish in particular was lovelyReviews seem to agree with me:

Shanghai Shanghai. Best duck in plum sauce I ever had. They have a really extensive menu due to all the Chinese students there - not for me but you can get chicken feet and the like. Been a while since we have been as we moved away but it's the same people I believe.
This is from a while ago but I think still stands - https://www.thetimes.com/travel/destinations/asia-travel/china/giles-coren-reviews-shanghai-shanghai-nottingham-0pf52s3bn28

Mans wollaton is good but but not spectacular but is always consistent. Mans city centre is not as good as it used to be, but again consistent.
Mandarin is better than both of those, but I do reccomend going during the day to try their full dim sum menu which is not available in the evenings.
Small caveat - it has been a good few years since we last tried Chungs, it may well have improved.

This looks promising. I'm sure the other places have their merits but personally when I see dishes like 'pork chop in tomato sauce' or 'chicken lemon delight' I'm immediately given to think it might not be authentic. A good rule of thumb I've found is that if there's no tripe on the menu, you are best off looking for somewhere else to eat, if authentic Chinese matters to you. This is from a while ago but I think still stands - https://www.thetimes.com/travel/destinations/asia-travel/china/giles-coren-reviews-shanghai-shanghai-nottingham-0pf52s3bn28
