Another what car from me. Brief has changed slightly.

Currently working on a house and garden renovation and the number of tip runs we are doing is staggering.

Friend suggested a pick up truck, and I am warm to the idea. Must be able to tow up to two tonnes (Caravan or aeroplane in a trailer). Will do 12k-16k miles a year.

Budget is up to £9k Cash or could go up to £14k with a small loan.

I have a side-gig as a sole trader but not VAT registered as below the threshold.

Can't work out the best way of doing this - I know nothing about pick up trucks or tax breaks.

Is it worth spending the extra? Thinking Ranger/Amarok as commute is c. 20mi each way on A Roads, 5 days a week.

Not wanting to put a dampener on the pick up idea, and if you really want one then go for it but through work we have access to a brand new Ford Ranger and Ford Transit custom vans and there is very rarely if ever a case where the Ranger is a better option than a transit.

The only things the Ranger are better at are off road and if you had to move something so bulky it won't fit in a transit.

Erm, check if that's a commercial vehicle for your local tip first, in which case skips may be cheaper. Really.

If you can get an F150 in the UK, great. Otherwise a Transit with a bed might be better. The beds are bigger on van / trucks and they usually open on the sides which makes easier to load and unload . plus you can use it as a flat bed for large items.

As above, most (all) tips won't let you take a pick up in without a pass of some sort, mine will allow 12 visits a year in my van.

Also if you do decide to buy a pick up the Nissan Navara seems to be the best value.
