So yes I bought the car about 5 years ago and it was at 120,000 I think I ve put about 25,000 miles on but then a little while ago i plugged in an OBD and there was an extra 100,000 miles reading in the read out of the car, so 245,000 miles, not 145,000. First of all how could that be done and why does it show up in the OBD software? At the time I thought oh man I got ripped off oh well it was years ago I can t do anything now but just recently found out that I can still do something about this as there is no statute of limitations on this fraud but it was bought from a private seller so I m wondering if anyone has experience with this. I can get the information on the car and this guy from the DVLA and the DVSA right? Like his current address since this is a crime, fraud, and then sue him for the money I paid for the car and he can have it back? Is that how it works?

Thanks in advance.

If you hadn’t checked mileage via OBD port and then sold the car showing 145,000 miles do you think the buyer would be able to come back to you 5 years later and be entitled to all the money back?

Are you sure it's miles? A lot of cars show KM in their OBD readouts.

Mine show KM via OBD, also would you not get discrepancies on the MOTs?

How do you know it was the guy who sold it to you that clocked it?

Does it show up on the MOT history as being clocked at any stage?

Milage is recorded on various ECUs on the car. Could be a swapped part. How do the MOTs tally. Service history etc. 100k the car would have more wear.

None of this makes sense, you think this, you think that. Why not state the actual mileage now? What does the MoT history show etc.

Don t know what you re laughing at I was told this by someone at the DVLA, there s no statue of limitations on mileage fraud then they told me to contact dvsa. I looked this up myself and it is in fact true, no statute of limitations on mileage fraud in the uk. Funny stuff man.

Not if I wasn’t the person who fraudulently changed the mileage. Of course not.
