Chinese Rapist Jailed for 24 years
Discussion
Seen the news this evening and heard a student studying here committed at least 10 rapes split between here and China, he was found guilty on several charges including rape, drugging his victims and kidnapping.
Given he was here on a study visa does anyone know if this is grounds for automatic deporting. There was no mention in the news article.

My understanding, but this goes back 20 years, the state of origin will be aware of the case. They can ask that the offender serves his sentence in his own country. The country must not be seen as dangerous to the individual. Eg, if he was gay, he would not be returned to Saudi Arabia.
The reason can be humanitarian. The offender will have no relatives/friends living near the prison so they could not visit regularly. There are other reasons, such as diet.
The norm, from my day, was the offender spends time in the English/Welsh prison system and then is handed over to his own country. Conditions are attached, and a friendly country is assumed to be compliant. Al Megrahi proved otherwise, but there were special circumstances there.
He can, and should, be banned from reentering the country.
Just reread the OP. If there are offences in both countries, I would assume different protocols are followed.
