A couple of times now ive had the coolant level warning, (on off on off throughout the journey). The tank is full so i assume the sensor is on its way out, at £45 plus vat & shipping etc its not crazy but i suspect its only a ford part.

Ive dropped my camera down but cant see a part number and need the car later and tomorrow. Does anyone know the FoMoCo part or other equivalent?

i replaced the sensor in my DB9. Made no difference. The real problem was the float inside the tank was sticking. When you order a new tank, a sensor is included.

Iinteresting, i didnt know there was a float, i thought it was just some sort of conduction sensor.

Replaced the sensor on a 2006 and 2012 Vantage, fixed the issue both times. Sensor reporting low when it was full. Easy DIY job thumbup

The sensor is a Reed switch that goes inside a tube (so no worries about the sensor leaking coolant if its not a good seal). On the outside of the tube is a float with a small magnet that opens and closes the reed switch as it goes up and down.

It is normally the Sensor (reed switch ) that fails, its the same part as a Range Rover and is easy to swap out. Occasionally the float might get swamped and sit at the bottom of the expansion chamber but this is more rare.

They can be had on Ebay for as little as £7.

Part No for the Range Rover part is PCJ500030LR

Perfect, thanks Paul! Very much appreciated.

Ive ordered a JLR genuine one rather than go the cheapest route, still a 3rd the aston price!
