Heres a strange question.. what is directly behind the wood-finished part of the dash? Is there a secure material behing it for self tapping screws to grip into if I screw through the wood?

It's normally stuck onto a steel backing plate. But knowing TVR ...

Machine screws, or self tappers should be fine.
