Wales Feedback

After I posted up some months ago about riding in Wales, we did the trip this week (Mon - Thurs). One of the guys had to bail 30 miles in as his bike developed a nasty fuel leak meaning he couldn't go on.
We did our best to get him sorted but eventually admitted defeat and went on our way. We stopped at a house in Bala which is a lovely town, plenty of pubs and places to eat and walking distance to the lake.
I found the people to be very friendly and accomodating despite what others had said. In fact at one point we were making some healthy progress up one of the passes and spotted 2 OAP's eating their lunch by the road. Expecting waving arms and shouting I was pleasantly surprised when they both stuck their thumbs up and had huge grins. I found this to be the case everywhere we went, the locals swooned around the bikes and were very chatty.
The condition of the roads is much better than I expected! Compared to England they were like riding on snooker tables. Barely any potholes even on the quieter roads and other than the odd dropping of gravel (for resurfacing) they were 95% well maintained.
The speed limits can be quite confusing at times. We came across many a 40mph on a wide open road with no hazards but then on the contrary quite a few villages where the speed limit remains at 60! The 20mph limits are completely ridiculous. We adhered to them for fear of a camera van being around the corner but in doing so we're tailgated by locals until the point we could buggar off again. We weren't in any particular rush so just sucked them up but if I lived there I think it would become quite tedious very quickly.
Will definitely be back again, truly beautiful part of the UK with not very much to dislike.

Thanks both! Yes we were very lucky with the weather.
The guys bike who broke down - well it's not really a huge surprise. He parks it at his mums in Gainsborough as he lives in London. He parked it up last year after our Scotland trip and then returned to it the day we were travelling to Wales having not been cleaned, serviced, checked over or anything really. The most laid back guy on planet earth but this time it bit him hard!
