Did anyone see "Killer Sharks Live" last night on Ch 5??
Discussion
Just wondered what the general opinion was on the programme?
My initial impression when I heard about the programme last week, were that they were immediately creating the wrong and sensationalist image with the chosen title of the programme?, it really annoys me when people talk about 'KILLER' sharks!
There were some interesting sections on basic shark biology etc, but why did they have to start with a story of an attack? People seem to forget that worldwide they are still comparatively rare occurrences, and that all victims were in the sharks environment (the vast majority of them by choice - sport/recreational divers, surfers, swimmers etc).
It seemed very disjointed in the way that it was presented, going from a tabloid style programme to an informative documentary then back again.
I have studied sharks for many years as a hobby, and have been lucky enough to cage-dive with Great Whites in Australia a few years ago. They are fantastic animals, perfectly evolved to suit their environment.
I just hope this programme is going to 'inform' the masses, rather than create another generation of 'shark haters' who see them all as mindless killers?
Cerby.

as soon as I heard the fox news style musical stings I knew it was going to be terrible.
The actual underwater stuff was interesting, very good footage of some big sharks.
The opening section with the attack on the girl has been used before in a similar show that was done in a much more scientific and academic context. Last nights show was a heavily edited and dramatised version of the incident, failed to explain any possibilities of why the shark attacked and what the behaviour meant.
And to say it was shot dead with one shot? I am having doubts about that unless it was a cannon.
Typical Ch5 nature show, there is enough interesting things to show and earn about these creatures without all the Spielberg crap.
