Looking for some advise...

Flew with a budget airline to a European destination with luggage including a child's car seat and pushchair.

After landing, no car seat or pushchair - there's a booth for the airlines appointed luggage agent at the airport, they claim they don't have it and to fill in a form online. Ask if we can borrow a car seat, they say no but to rent one and claim the cost back.

Rent car seat for £50 for a week.

The next day, the car seat arrives at the hotel, and a day later the pushchair.

Fill in a delayed baggage claim and the airline offers £25 and refuses to increase and suggest claiming on the travel insurance - which has a £50 excess.

Bit frustrated and not really sure where to go from here.

Check if the airline is a member of an ADR (Alternate Dispute Resolution). If so you can lodge a case with them if you're not happy with the airlines response.

https://www.aviationadr.org.uk/baggage-complaint-h...

A list of airlines participating in the ADR scheme are here.

https://www.caa.co.uk/passengers-and-public/resolv...

If they're not participating with an ADR, you might end up going to PACT, Passenger Advice and Complaints Team, which is part of the UK CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) so they have teeth but any resolution with PACT will take months so I'd suggest exhausting other avenues first.

If I’ve understood the situation correctly, this is going involve quite a bit of faffing around for £25. It is extremely frustrating and the lack of care/service from the ‘organisations’ involved is diabolical at times but how much is your time worth to you?

You are not entitled to any kind of compensation, only a refund of any reasonable emergency purchases. Airline are offering what they think is a fair amount for 24 hour car seat rental

Airline are offering a default amount, ignoring costs incurred. Even if I did just rent the car seat for a single day (not knowing when the car seat would arrive...), fuel to drop it off and parking would've been more than £25 anyway.
