Anyone got any info on these big old beasts i know there are not any mk1 granadas left and only 1 mk2 twin turbo in ireland but if anyone has ever owned one or worked on them any info would be appreciated
If thats one i'm thinking of, it was one of two management role cars based at Dunton. they would wheel spin in the first 3 gears. Came across it when my dad was working there in the early 80'srallye101 said:
I think that Ghia in the picture looks fantastic . I remember as a youth , when Production of these ended in the late seventies , being really disappointed by the replacement . I also thought they had a nicer finish than the MK2 . Over time however opinions would change and you had to hand it to Ford , in the Seventies they didn't get much wrong .The magazine that road tested FLY2T awarded it their 'Modified Car of the Year award' at the end of the year.
W. Harold Perry (at the time the world's biggest exclusive Ford dealer with multiple branches) produced the car in partnership with Broadspeed. A twin turbo Cologne predating the Turbo Technics Capris and Sierras.
I think the only cosmetic changes were the coach line and a new steering wheel centre badge. The price seemed to be the problem with this car.
I joined Perrys a few years later and remember the first Sierra arriving in the showroom, that was a shock !

Hi, I might be a bit late on this, but hope the people posting are still active.
In the summer or 1979, having finished my O levels I went for a couple of weeks work experience with WH Perrys @ Hadleigh in Essex.
The site is no longer there, being a Morrisons supermarket.
Part of my experience was working with the lady who registered all the cars for the dealership with the DVLA.
Whilst I was there the Motor road test came out. It was dated week ending July 21st, which was a Saturday and I believe Motor was always available to buy on the previous Wednesday.
Anyway she remembered registering the car a few months previously, as obviously the plate FLY 2T was fairly unique.
The sales guys were raving about the road test and you couldn't get a copy of Motor anywhere locally,so I borrowed a salesman's copy.
They had lots of enquiries from people wanting to road test and buy the model. I assumed there would be lots on the roads in the coming months, but it never occurred. I guess the conversion was too expensive?
Anyways, I never went back to work there, having decided to do my A Levels, so I never knew anymore about it.

But FLY was a North West London registration not an Essex reg?In the summer or 1979, having finished my O levels I went for a couple of weeks work experience with WH Perrys @ Hadleigh in Essex.

That's correct. The Hadleigh dealership upstairs housed a very busy administration office and was I think amongst other things, the base for Perry's fleet sales, as lots of people used to pop in and out who weren't showroom sales people.
One of the guys who had been there for years had just won a big order from one of the big daily newspapers for the Cortina 80 and the MD wanted to go up to Fleet Street and meet the person who'd placed the order. He asked the fleet sales guy for his contacts office address.
He said he didn't know it, as he'd only ever met him in the pub!
Apologies for digressing, but the lady responsible had batches of reg numbers which could be allocated to each area where the cars were being sold from Perry's dealerships.
Someone posted a couple of years ago on Retro rides that he worked on FLY 2T at Perry's,I assume Edgware. I cannot post the link as I'm new, so I'll post his comment:
Hi. I used to work at W H Perrys ltd
I used to work on FLY 2T. BROADSPEED Twin Turbo. Had a key operated switch on the dash. Was a low compression engine used to run AG901 racing plugs. Had to swap them out for NGK because cold start difficulties. When t came to end of the project. I had to convert it back to a standard 2.8i. Had to change exhaust also because it had a balance pipe between both banks. Engine was left in parts department for ages. One of the dealer principals wanted to put it in a Tvr. Left so never knew what happened to engine. Only 3 Broadspeed twin turbo were made i was told. Neil Smith was dealer principal at Perrys edgware. He run the car.
