Mrs is bugging me about a disco, I had a disco 3 and loved it but I was single at the time and didn't need a bus so chopped it in.

I've been reading the horror stories and living very rural the nightmares relayed over a pint in the local.

Has the D300 engine largely solved these issues or is it still too early to tell, I really don't want a money pit, I'm used to pants down and smack your bum servicing costs with BMW so that won't hurt but a new engine is going to sting a bit even with a 10k oil change.

I work from home so lots of 10 mile round trips to the shops but the only runs out are to the coast a few times a year.

Thanks for any insight.

I have a D300, a Defender but I assume the same engine. Mine's a 2022 which I bought used from a main JR dealer 8 months ago with just a few thousand miles.

My journey profile is lots of local stuff with the weekly/fortnightly 50 mile motorway trip. So far it has been fault free. It does a regen occasionally (you can tell because the idle rises a bit and it sounds a bit throaty) and I have tried not to interrupt those. If it's doing it when I get home, I just leave it idling on the drive and let it finish.

It uses no oil, it doesn't seem to gain any either through oil dilution so I guess all is well on that front which is, as far as I can see, one of the potential issues. It is a lovely engine, smooth and has enough grunt.

I don't think you'll need to be too concerned.

D350 Disco owner here, which I believe is the same engine.

I upgraded from a 2019/69 SD6 and it drives much better. Averaging 32mpg over the last 7k miles / 6 months. So far, no trouble, the motor is great - very smooth and quiet.

Speaking from experience, I wouldn't want to own a LR product without warranty and assist. I had more than my moneys worth with the last car.
