Me again.
Whilst I’ve got my dashboard in bits sorting my alarm, I was going to have a look at the petrol gauge.
It’s an early type with the low-level LED warning. The problem is I have never seen this LED illuminate (& I have ran low a few times).
I’ve also lifted the connection from the fuel tank sender, gauge dropped to zero but no light…
Has anybody seen this LED work?
Ta.

Not in every car.... In fact only in a few... Didn't work or was reliable anywayt so you haven't missed anything.

Another way is to go by mileage between fill-ups, eg 200 miles.
So was I (wary, that is) but unfortunately I have to put in a good word for my particular gauge - when it's F it's full, when it's 1/2 it's half, and when E it's empty. Horribly accurate in fact... must have been last in the cue for the standard model!! just my 2p...
I get 300 to a tank (4.0hc) almost exactly time after time... anyone won any Optimax airmiles yet...?
