Random farm near Preston has a bunch of Skoda's parked behind a greenhouse and hidden by an artic trailer.

The owners (and family) all drive chavi SUVs and, I suspect, would not be seen dead in a skoda.

Anyway posit why they are there or do dealers need extra space at times (main dealer is about 6 miles away)?

They're definitely all new, still with their protective 'cling film' on.

Local agreement with farmer to store new dealer stock?

Local Hyundai dealer uses a small-holding type place to store some new cars and a bit further away keeps more on a Bookers car park. The dealership itself has very little parking - it’s a bit of a nightmare going there.

Many, many years ago i remember using a now long gone storage place in Rotherhithe to house 100,000 dozen pairs of socks. (Our family firm were Job buyers back then). Anyhoo.....

....the local Ford dealer would use the place to tuck away Escorts awaiting prep. Sometimes there would be several dozen cars in the complex.

One night every single car was broken into and had their radios nicked.

That was the end of the agreement.

It is just a holding yard, nothing more.Quite common for dealers to store them anywhere.

thanks all. I suspected as much but knowing the owners of this premises there was every chance it could have been something far more nefarious.

my uncle was a Datsun dealer in the late 70s. early 80s we used to have around 30/40 new cars in the wax parked in the woods behind our house as there was simply not enough space on the forecourt

Visited Liverpool earlier this year

The upper deck of a multi storey car park was clearly being used as car storage / preparation / valeting bay by a Porsche / BMW dealer

Our local Booker car park gets used as an overflow for the local Hyundai dealer.

Interestingly with Skoda, you can see their new UK inventory.

There's 4,104 new cars listed at the time of writing - if you look at an individual dealer you can see what they've got and what's available to them form Skoda UK.

Sidenote: Was surprised to see there are 748 Elroqs - our local dealer told us it's selling so well it's being taken of Motability from tomorrow.

Porsche Wilmslow seems to use the garden centre across the road to store overspill, mainly Taycans.

That could be a symbiotic business arrangement to make the garden centre appear popular!

Back in the day of annual reg changes on the 1st Aug, dealers would stockpile months of volume - I had several student summer jobs cleaning cars for delivery and driving them to and from the storage locations (often farmers fields or deserted industrial units on short term rent). I had dreamt of spend all summer driving new BMWs and Mercs but of course it was mainly pov spec Metros and Maestros, in the middle of summer sitting on plastic seat protectors and no air con....

And means that your brand new car will be delivered with parking dings on the doors.

Just cheap parking space for stock, the garden centre generates money from dead space and doubt the car thieves have joined the dots between garden centres and a target rich environment.

Worked in Speke some years ago, used to park on a hotel car park which was part of the original Liverpool airport, one day half of the car park coned off, by the time I left that evening it was full to the brim with new LR Evoques from the Halewood plant a mile or so away.

There's an old car dealership near me (now since vacated) but the yard out the back is full of those new electric Lotus saloons and SUVs. They've attempted to try and hide them behind screens, but you can just about see them as you walk past. They have been there for months, probably since late last year eek
