We're £740 in credit with our energy provider.

Today, we requested a refund of £316 (leaving enough to pay this months demand and seom credit).

We get an email back; This will take 5 to 7 working days to approve, and then a further 5 to days to refund.

When we are billed, they receive the money immediately. So why can't it be refunded immediately? And why does a refund require approval?

This is a bloody damn cheek.

I'm aware the energy companies are subject to some FCA regulation, but are they subject to the same scrutiny as banks?? If not, it's probably about time they are....

yeah, I had that some years ago. I said I work in investment banking and can move millions in seconds, but you can't give we back 600 quid for two weeks?
nothings changes.
they also do the thing about increasing your monthly payment so you dont get a surprise bill at the end of the year, they tried this with me "erm.... im in credit!, they also tried it on my mother, by about 60pct... err no I politely pointed out, you will be paid any small balance due at the end of the year as usual as she has been doing for the past several years. you will not increase it and dont ask again you thieving arses preying on the vulnerable.

On a par with local councils - three months after asking, I'm still waiting on a £35 refund of council tax - had to jump through several hoops and make several chase-up calls to finally get things rolling.

It's not about the amount just the fact you have to chase several times to make sure they do their jobs and the rules that apply to you don't appear to apply to them.

Dear Mr SpeedBash

"Thank you for your recent emails, the contents of which have been noted.

We have now processed the refund by BACS and the refunds will be in your bank account within 7 to 10 days".

Same here. No messing about, just pay for what you've used.
