Sauber Motorsport sets up shop at Bicester Motion

New Technology Centre to support Audi's F1 factory effort from next year

No F1 team is complete without a base somewhere near Silverstone. Or right at Silverstone, if you’re Aston Martin. Motorsport Valley (a bit of the Midlands, most of Oxfordshire) simply has too much expertise to be too far from when you’re at the very upper echelons. Plus everyone can get to work at light speed on the M40. The latest outfit to put down roots in the area is Sauber Motorsport, with a new Technical Centre opening up at Bicester Motion; it will support Audi’s factory F1 effort from next year, which is based in Switzerland.

Sauber (as it is for the rest of 2025) will be based in Building 123 at the old bomber base; today’s press release says that the Technology Centre ‘will provide a base for the team to benefit from the expertise within the region and support the Audi F1 Project’s HQ in Hinwil, Switzerland, to create a cohesive and integrated approach to all aspects of the project.’ First steps are recruitment and expansion, laying down roots so the best people and relationships are in place for 2026.

Mattia Binotto, Head of Audi’s F1 Project, said: “The opening of the Sauber Motorsport Technology Centre at Bicester Motion is a significant milestone as we prepare for Audi’s arrival in Formula 1. This facility will allow us to tap into the talent pool in Motorsport Valley and further strengthen our technical capabilities while being part of a thriving cluster at Bicester Motion where you live and breathe motorsport. The support it will play to Hinwil will be important to our long-term success.” Not long to go now…

maybe but... VWG have an unbelievable record at World class motorsport.

World Rally Champions in the 80's and 10's
Le Mans winners
DTM champions.

F1 is an altogether different level, but VWG will spend the dosh and get there in the end.
