DPF cleaner advice
Discussion
Looking for some advice please, both wife and daughter have engine management light on linked to DPF, 2019 Evoque 30k miles, and 2015 Cooper D 90k miles, both have had lights turned off and had Redex fuel additive ran through one tank of fuel , both now have lights back on.
Does it need more ? Is the a better/stronger additive?
Any advice welcome please.
Thanks

Just to ask, the Rangy has done an average 5k a year? Are you sure diesel is the right choice? Even the Mini only does 9k apparently. Would they not be better off in petrol/hybrid? No DPF problems, at least.Does it need more ? Is the a better/stronger additive?

Agreed and with hindsight and now the issues we have different decisions could have been made, also have 997 and PS2 in the family so have all bases covered 🤣Using higher quality fuels which produce less soot and better combustion tends to prolong the life of a dpf. If it's been run on whatever's cheapest, it's generally a false economy as far as modern engine reliability and longevity is concerned. But obviously, there are other factors, such as driving style and daily mileage, etc, to consider.

Pretty sure this will be the case in the future but first need to solve these issues .Decky_Q said:
Dont spend a ton of money on it, just get a foaming dpf cleaner and put it down the pre dpf pressure sensor hole, let it soak and drive it off. It's a single spring clip on a rubber hose, it requires no skill or experience and will likely get it sorted.
Any more info on product and were to spray it please ? A DPF will not regen if the car is in an error state and has active faults logged. Are you certain that the EML only refers to soot level and that there are no other issues?
Most DPF additives you can buy off the shelf don’t actually clean it, instead they reduce the operating temperature at which a regen will be triggered by the car.
Firstly get the codes read again and cleared. If they only relate to a regen being needed then I would fill up with decent quality fuel (most cars will not regen below 1/4 full) and take for a good long motorway run, ideally with the revs over 2k for at least 20-30 mins.
If that’s doesn’t fix it, stick it into a garage as something else is amiss.

Evoque isn't the best, the DPF is too far away from the engine to get hot enough, if it only does short trips then you are better off selling it. The most common issue seems to be the filter on the EGR valve that gets blocked, if not there is a pressure sensor. You need to get the codes read and go from there.
The same applies to the Mini with regards to the DPF - get the codes read.

Clear the codes.
Top up the diesel tank
Trg and regen the dpf by holding the revs at 2-3k rpm for 5- 10 mins.
Do this somewhere in the open away from others as it will cause a stink.
Best way to look after a dpf is to redline it in 2nd or 3rd gear once a week.
Not adviseable when someones behind you.

Stevie is 100% on the evoque, for packaging the dpf was moved back and is too far away from the heat so is prone to soot blocking the ceramic pores.
It's easy to figure out where to put it, theres 2 rubber hoses one before and one after, stick it in the one before, the hose has a spring clip holding it on that you remove by squeezing the wings, hose pulls off. Let it soak for an hour and then burn it off with a drive keeping it above 2k rpm (which will also stop it going into restricted performance mode), reset the light after you get back and problem should be sorted. I'm not that familiar with MINIS but this is standard for evoque.
