As far as I can gather, 1P is the same as EE, but I'm curious to see the observations of anyone who has made the same move.

Currently with EE and have been for years, but they can't compete with what 1P are offering.

I made this move.

It was a mistake.

They are not the same and you get what you pay for.

You can dig into the specs of each network for yourself. 1p mobile doesn t support eSIMs for example. Only EE offers a full set of network features. All the MVNO s, are missing this or that.

With use around London, I find 1p doesn t have the same connectivity, even if the connectivity bars on the phone are the same. Can t get data around busy transport hubs where as I could at least get a slowed down service on EE. It is not as quick to reconnect when it does lose connection to the network, after passing through a tunnel etc.

EE are definitely prioritising their own traffic.

Having said this 1p are far better than full fat O2, at least in London, and definitely not disastrous. I don t feel short changed for the prices they are offering, but best of breed, premium service like EE, it most definitely is not.

Having come from BT (EE) to EE I can advise that its never the same.

I was paying £20 (£25 by time I left) for 40GB data and unlimited everything else including roaming.

I jumped on an offer from EE of £27 for unlimted everything including roaming. This deal also included their top data speeds for 5G.

Turns out my BT sim only deal wasnt "max" data speeds it was capped.

I have also noticed my signal is a lot better now everywhere, outside my house on BT I would get broken 4G, now on EE I get 5G.

Same phone and both were 5G sim only deals.

Dunno about 1p, but Lyca seems quite good to me.
Better coverage than O2, which doesn't work at all well compared with how it worked a year ago.
E.g. sending a gmail message with a photo attached.
Same phone, same place!

You can get a month's deal for a fiver as an e-sim and try it, before ditching your old SIM and number.

Personally I'm happy to pay a fiver on top of what O2 are charging me to have service from both networks, being somewhere with patchy coverage.

My experience is different to the above. I was moved to EE from BT mobile as part of an upgrade and realised the cost was much more than I originally expected.

I switched to 1p and have had no issues whatsoever. Number ported without issue.

I had two SIMs on BT / EE and moved both to 1p mobile.

Depends what you use it for really - if you just browse Facebook etc and do generic internet browsing then you are probably fine, however if you stream etc then it will definitely be noticeable if it’s capped.

EE definitely limit certain frequency bands for themselves and their top spec contracts. I was on Virgin mobile years ago as it came free with my broadband. Initially I think it was on Vodafone and was fine, but they migrated to EE and the signal was shocking at work where I know people on EE have no issue. Shortly went back to paying for a Talkmobile (voda) contract again as get rock solid signal through a lot of lanes to work meaning I can have a reliable phone conversation 95% of the way (and know the only black spot).

Thanks for all the feedback, I appreciate it smile

At the moment, I'm 20gb with EE, which is uncapped and has roaming included. £23pcm.

1P has 50gb, EU roaming and apparently incapped for £10pcm

EE, by comparison, is offering unlimited uncapped data and EU roaming for £24pcm.

I use streaming services a fair bit, and my existing 20gb is starting to struggle. 1P seemed almost too good to be true.

I've been switching companies.

Lycra was ok, I went to lebara, 56p a month for 50gig data. I've just switch to smarty, 6 quid for 20gig will switch back to lebara as never had any issues .

It is like a challenge now to get the cheapest contract I Habe and with WiFi calling doesn't really matter on signal

Does this mean that if I purchase an eSIM from a 3rd party vendor, it won't work in my 1p mobile phone? Or just that 1p don't offer an eSIM service themselves?

I'm going to South America next week and was about to purchase one. I'm a bit buggered if it's the former!

1p themselves don't support esims.

No problem buying a travel esim and using that abroad with a physical 1p SIM in the slot.

Tell EE you want a better contract. I have 30GB, uncapped, EU roaming and pay £10.65

I moved from BT to EE (mobile, landline and broadband) at their suggestion for a better deal. Unfortunately they forgot to mention that EU roaming was not included and which I only found out on arriving in Sweden and being unable to phone my mate to say I was waiting to be picked up from the station. Luckily I eventually managed to pick up WIFI from a McDonald's.
Their service has been very poor across the board but the help desk staff (scattered around UK and Ireland) are brilliant. Their roaming rates are rather steep, so on complaining that I'd been misled about the costs, the very helpful Agent (in Waterford IIRC) referred it upwards, gave me full RU roaming, AND reduced my monthly charge by £2.50.

If you ask EE for a PAC code (to allow you to take your number to another provider) they will usually ring you within a few hours to offer a better deal. Make sure you have the details of a competitors contract that you would like them to match or get close to. I've done this the last few times I have got to the end of my contract and I have incrementally got more data for a lower monthly cost each time. They have put me on their "essentials" contract (still 5G) which just means I am capped at 100mb download speeds, which is no hardship for me, but just be aware of that as that may be the only way they can get a price close to what you would like.

I made sure my EE one did include roaming. If its not listed then its probably not included.

They advised verbally that everything would be the same as the BT deal. Despite numerous requests I have never had anything in writing stating exactly what is included.

I moved from Giffgaff to 1p Mobile a couple of weeks ago as the coverage was pretty poor and the change over (porting) was seamless and haven’t had any issues with the coverage/speed.
