My wife s new Tesla Model Y (literally done less than 1000 miles!) has damage to the bonnet.
I was ready to be quite cross at her when she told me something hit my car (code for she s driven into something again
), but having watched the dash cam footage it s unlucky as hell and completely unavoidable.
She was following a scrap metal truck (leaving loads of space because of what was in front), but something seemingly flew off it, into the front of a Ford Ranger coming the other way, which then pelted it right into the bonnet of her car.
Anyway. The bonnet s now got a dent and some scratches. I haven t had a chance to get a professional to have a look yet and won t for a few days, hence my asking here for advice!
I contacted Tesla through the app and they came back with the below:

Fair enough, but with it being literally brand new, I can t understand needing to blend anything as I thought that was to help match fresh paint with older panels? I d rather not have extra bits painted because I don t really want a brand new car being messed about with too much and also because it ll save some cash! I don t imagine the multi-coat Ultra Red paint helps though.
I m really picky about things so want it to look perfect, but what are the thoughts of those who know more than me? I used Tesla previously with her old car and they did an excellent job so am happy to use them again.
Thanks!

Let them do it as they want to, they're right. It needs blending because its new paint onto existing paint, not so much colour (you can colour match pretty much perfectly, given enough time) but so many other slight variations in paint application which can be seen from different angles, in different light, etc. By blending, these slight variations will be invisible. It will be a bodyshop paint booth vs the factory, so different environments, so differences will occur.
