Ok, so I have always loved the 964 and I´m after another weekend car for fun in the sun.

The track day scene is well behind me, so it´s more a case of back roads, country lanes and trips abroad.

My real question is this - Is the Cabrio, like some Cabs, awful on anything but black ribbon tarmac? I expect some scuttle shake, after all the roof´s been chopped off, but I´d love some real world advice and experience, if possible.

Is a Targa better? I owned a 1980 SC Targa, and that was fine, I just don´t know how different the next gen is.

Thanks in advance and enjoy this drop-top weather!

I have had ten 911s, from the 70s to noughties models, but always avoided targas. However, I now find myself yearning for one. I think they are very cool. Not sure why my attitude has changed, but it has. No idea how they drive though. Yet. But they will be much better than cabs scuttle shake wise. If you find a nice 964 targa and don't buy it, please send it my way smile

PS: my wife had a 964 C4 cab. Not the prettiest car, and some scuttle shake, but she cried when we part exed it for a 993 coupe.

don't have relevant input for you, but to my eyes purely from a looks perspective a 911 Targa looks awesome and a 911 convertible looks like a bathtub. I am biased though as I have a Targa as my (summer) daily driver.

I had a 964 targa on which I fitted a strut brace which made a small improvement to any scuttle shake. And targas look much better than cabs (although we have a 991 cab now)!

I've always loved a Targa.

964 is the last of the proper Targas.

993 "Targa" was just a big sunroof.

Until I saw this....

I dont have any issues, I do have a C4 tho, and the 4wd torque tube solid system does stiffen the chassis/spread the weight shift and load front to rear. Shocks, springs and geo will make much more difference than the missing roof. I cant recommend a Targa highly enough and am quicker than most, wet dry, track or road. - (if the question is around handling and performance).

I'd consider the 991 and 992 to be proper Targas.

Totally agree.

If you want a Porsche convertible and can't afford a Targa - the modern ones are very expensive - buy a Boxster.
