Wasn't it a mess?! Both riders were pressing on and over the cobbles their bikes were skipping left and right. As you said, I could see a crash on the approach when Thomas moved to the right, giving Vercher only a slither of road between him and the crowd ... then when it arrive, it was at the least expected part. Yes it was Thomas's fault they both came down but I don't think there was any intent (at least at that point) to impede Vercher ... it was a loss of bike control on the throw.
