Aside from left/right/independent traditional metrics, this could get erm, interesting... I'm not taking sides but the entrant of someone who can control a social media narrative possibly won't be giving Trump fluffy happy dreams.

Probably just kick him out to SA....

I can’t imagine institutions invested in Tesla are going to be happy.

If I was Trump I d have him out of the country as quickly as I could, by fair means or foul. Musk could make his life very difficult if he chose to do so, so Don should get him gone ASAP. Interesting times lie ahead.

Assuming he could start a fully-fledged party, could U.S. politics work with a three party system? Putting aside that the voting population in the states is much more tribal than it typically is in Europe, would politics not be completely paralysed by having three parties? Would the parties be able to form coalition governments in order to gain overall control? If so, perhaps that's exactly what U.S. politics needs.

I doubt it could be a ruling party any time soon, but definitely a disruptor with Musk's massive megaphone and money.

Musk has seemed fairly erratic for years now and this seems a continuation of that.

I doubt the new party will take off and I also think his business interests will likely suffer further, bearing in mind they have already been affected by his foray into politics.

Someone who is brilliant but may actually need some help, whether that be counselling or more.

The ghost of Ross Perot lives on.

He'll get nowhere but may steal a few Republican votes and who's going to be the puppet, sorry I mean Prez, as he can't be?

I was thinking more Lawrence Fox.

Is this all a made up distraction?

It will probably be launched with the same success rate as a Starship.

i reckon musk does believe that the deficit is a problem and he thought that DT was serious about doing something about it. That was the whole point of what mush thought doge was doing. Tax cuts for the rich, tax hikes for the poor and reduction of the deficit.

Musk got two out of three.

Launching a third party puts Musk at risk in terms of Trump attacking his company's.

I wonder if some of the other billionaires have the appetite to also stand with Musk.

If so that would potentially create a real third party in terms of available funds and perception of strength in numbers. If they could then get credible people for election it may alter the political landscape.

Just needs a few to have the balls as currently American politics is a joke as both parties are fundamentally the same.

Wonderful.

Government by billionaires, for billionaires.

I bet the muggles would lap it up.

Musk's preffered presidential nominee, the original Billion dollar baby, Alice Cooper, has made his first press comment ..

And if I am elected
I promise the formation of a new party
A third party, the Wild Party!

But surely it can't be any worse, the current parties really dint put the people first.
Also the economy is a ticking time bomb that at some point will destroy their lifestyles as they know it.

Musks willingness to go against the grain with regard to debt control is forward thinking. It's a major issue that needs to be addressed but the current parties aren't doing anything about it.

It wouldn’t win in an election, but a few candidates in key states with the backing of Musk and the power of social media might hurt either of the main parties in swing states?

I would advise Musk not to stand close to high windows!

This. I expect if he starts making too much noise about this, he will be found dead some time in the next 12 months, probably set up to look like an overdose.
