Cayman/Boxster EV
Discussion
So we all know this is coming, maybe end of this year or next year.
They will be filling a huge gap in the market. Did you know the only convertible EV cars are a Fiat 500 or a MG Cyberster.
I’m tempted, at potentially 500 bhp maybe, new design and interior etc, it would be a great daily driver to replace our BMW comp cab, and to sit alongside a DB12.
Have had 3 Porsches and would like to come back

Know you mentioned using it as a daily but I'm wondering what its range might be if used enthusiastically, and how that might compute with a trip to Wales or Scotland where it can be hard to get premium petrol, let alone find fast chargers in the rural areas
That's before one gets into what it might be like to drive of course

Don’t think the next cayman/boxster porsche is due to l2027 - so two years wait. Am sure that is the latest I read recently as there are various problems stalling launch. They will be filling a huge gap in the market. Did you know the only convertible EV cars are a Fiat 500 or a MG Cyberster.

Both those cars are in different sectors and much cheaper that the Porsche will be. They will be filling a huge gap in the market. Did you know the only convertible EV cars are a Fiat 500 or a MG Cyberster.
Honestly, if the past few years have shown us anything, it's that EV sports/super cars are very hard to sell. People driving everyday cars are mostly fine with electric power, it's just another means of propulsion. Buyers of sports cars buy them for a significantly different reasons and the engine is a huge part of the sports car experience. Few are light cars but they are certainly much lighter than an EV.
Porsche are far from the only ones, of course, but I can't help feeling that they are beavering away to build a car most people don't yet want or will accept.
This huge gap is really a tiny gap in the market.
Current Cayman's weigh up to 1400KG so any thought of the EV being lighter you can think again, or they have a limited range.
Also, if you think they'll be cheaper than the ICE equivalent I'd think again, Porsche have already stalled the dates to release the EV Cayman/Boxster due to demand concerns after the beating they've taken on Taycan's and Macan EV's, the last thing they want is to do the same in their sports car market.
It's going to have to have all of the bells and whistles to sell in my eyes, maybe the gap between the 718 ICE to EV platform is the trick as some people will be itching to replace their current car and this being the only option in that space.

I feel that the Taycan only suffered because no-one wants big saloons these days but many bought them on company leases with zero tax and after that they were just large saloons hitting a market that didn't exist before, let alone now. They are amazing bargains now though.
Is the EV SUV struggling too?

244 Macan EV's on AT right now, oldest go back to 74 plate, I spotted a nearly new Turbo S (60 miles on the clock) with 20K discount, I'll let you make your own assumptions on the SUV EV.Is the EV SUV struggling too?

Yep, would expect existing residuals to hold strongly, maybe even appreciate if numbers run too low...Honestly, if the past few years have shown us anything, it's that EV sports/super cars are very hard to sell. Very few will be interested in a 2 tonne EV Boxster at £100k+. Hardly even seems worth developing at all other than to virtue signal. Is surely better to build ICE for markets unaffected by bans and ready for when those unworkable bans get abolished. Worst case will be ways to to get around the regs on import.

Presume will weigh at least two tonnes and cost over 100 grand. Just don t see the appeal really.
I don t see it being two tonnes, hopefully 1.5 ish. Like all other Porsche there will be lots of options and model variants. I m hoping for a GTS variant at around £80kA Tesla Model 3 Long Range is just over 1,800kg with a 78.1kWh battery. And two motors, four doors, four seats, more glass etc etc. Porsche will definitely be able to beat that by at least 100kg with a smaller two seat car with a single motor and similar battery capacity.

Allegedly Tesla just filed for new Model 3 to be released in China later this autumn with 800km range at same weight as current model. Not sure that anyone really needs 490miles of range, but it might open the door for a lighter weight alternative with more modest range, so perhaps bodes well for Boxster EV

EV haters will tell you everyone needs 500 mile range. It would be good if someone can build a decent EV sports car and do something like Hyundai has with the Ioniq 5 n and 6 n and give it engagement. Porsche are probably the EU manufacturer who can do it. Price would be a concern though. IMO Porsche are getting less and less affordable.
I find new car prices absolutely baffling nowadays. 150k for a Macan Turbo - which to me is a white goods car, a nice white goods car I guess, but still ….
There are 900ish for sale on mobile.de, starting from c 75k

I have a friend with a Macan, he cites Porsche racing heritage. I point out that no Porsche SUV has won at Le Mans…
