Apparently keeping big cats is legal in Pakistan so long as you pay small fee, and keep it outside the city (which is not what happened here - event was in Lahore

Different countries have different customs, and I get the impression that things are pretty lax in Pakistan, that whole thing with PIA pilots being a case in point, and having pet Lions doesnt seem a great idea. Though given the dogs the British public seem to aspire to, wouldnt be surprised if people did want to own a Lion, probably in a really small house with no proper garden or a flat.

It was only in 1976 that the UK had any real restrictions. You could (and people did) keep a lion in a central London flat and take it out for a walk on a lead.

There was indeed a lion cub chained to a petrol station forecourt 200 yards from where I was born and grew up.

The (derelict) petrol station is still there BTW, but the lion isn't.

Very true, remember it well.
Harrods, yep Harrods, used to sell young lions (real ones!) and other animals normally seen only in zoos or the wild. Until those restrictions came in.

In 1968 one lady was well-known for 'walking her leopard' around the streets and shops.
Bloody sight tamer than some pit-bulls!

Today nobody believes you when you tell them 'people walked lions, tigers, and leopards' on leads. They look at you as if you've got a screw loose.

You still can keep big cats in the UK if you successfully apply for a license, I know someone who has. Obviously not as easy as it was in the past.
