A friend of mine is setting up a company and needs a good name.

Does anyone know of a website that generates names or something similar, we just need a few ideas to get us started.

Care to tell u what the company's product/service/angle will be?

I'm sure there are a few creative PHers that'd be glad to help - The rest of us will pitch in with ideas based on innuendo and nob gaggery in general

Try that... although some of the names suggested seem a bit dememnted.

Whatever you do, don't pick a name that someone else has used. That would look quite bad

Given that a company I part own has a potential trademark infringement issue drifting around it like an albatross, and my other business creates brand and corporate identities, I'd quite like to have a chat with your mate. Get him to email me, if he's interested.

From experience a company with 'R' Us in the title will run into problems with Toys R Us. Toys R Us are known to check company names and then threaten legal proceedings, they want to try and protect the 'R Us' name even thought the company may be in a totally different field. May not be worth the aggrivation even though they have no real grounds. They may have stopped this now as this was about 4 years ago.

I'm sure you're right - I only proposed it 'tongue in cheek' as t'wer to get some ideas flowing, although BigMan immediately discounted "unserious" names. I thought the idea was to encourage free-thinking / free-association in such exercises That'll be another boring, undistinctive, forgetable, grey name on the way then!

Norfolk and Chance Investments Ltd already exists. Bet they have a lot of customers. Obviously set up as a joke as they used to be called Wigoder Antiques Ltd.
